Transformers UK Comics Christmas Issues pt1 (w/ Gaz and Dange)
Totally Rad Christmas!
12/08/21 • 86 min
What’s up, dudes? There’s more than meets the eye today! I’ve got Gaz and Dange from the Insanely Dangerous Retro Podshow here to talk all things Transformers! The toys! The traumatic movie deaths! The Marvel UK comics!! It's a Transformers Christmas bonanza, and we get into all of it!
In the 1985 "Christmas Breaker" story from issue #41, Optimus Prime, dressed like Santa, throws a Christmas celebration for Buster Witwicky. Afterwards, while delivering presents, Jazz and Buster get into an accident. The cyborg Circuit Breaker attacks Jazz, thinking he hurt Buster. Buster pleads for mercy, and as nearby church bells chime for Christmas Day, she grants it. Jazz then begins to understand Christmas Spirit and its effect on humans.
In issue #93's "The Gift," Buster is spending Christmas studying when Jetfire interrupts him. Jetfire is confused over his disparate actions in two separate Decepticon encounters. He didn't react as confidently when his fellow Autobots were endangered as he did when humans were imperiled. Buster assures Jetfire of Optimus's trust, and that he should be proud to be created on Earth. The words of encouragement are his Christmas gift.
Autobots? Check. Decepticons? Got 'em. Vengeful cyborg lady unique to the comics continuity? You bet! So grab your energon cubes and hot cocoa and roll out to this episode on Transformers Christmas!

Centurions “Time Trap”
Totally Rad Christmas!
01/26/24 • 8 min
What’s up, dudes? Remember the Centurions? Kenner released the 7” Centurions line in 1986. The figures had cybernetic Exo-Frames with a number of hardpoints on the surface, onto which the various parts of their Assault Weapon Systems attached. In the accompanying Ruby-Spears cartoon, personnel on the orbiting space station Skyvault beamed the AWS to the team.
London Editions Magazines published Centurions comics in the UK. Despite the vague near future label, the UK comic firmly establishes the year as 2087 in issue #8 in the 4 page story entitled ‘Time Trap.’
In fact, it’s New Year’s Eve 2087, and even on Skyvault the turn of the new year is eagerly awaited. Max, Jake, and Crystal have only 2 1⁄2 minutes before midnight, and Crystal beams Jake up to Skyvault to celebrate the New Year with his friends. Just as Jake is teleported aboard, he discovers everything in a state of suspended animation. Yes, everyone of his friends is frozen in time. Investigating with the space scanner, Jake discovers that time hasn’t stopped, just slowed down almost to a halt. Doc Terror apparently fired a Time Stasis beam at Skyvault causing some sort of time distortion. Not knowing how to operate Skyvault’s defense systems, Jake instead opts to use Ace’s Orbital Interceptor AWS. He’s not used to handling space missions though, and he flies erratically. Fortunately, this prevents Doc Terror from locking his weapons on him. Jake fires a multi-particle missile at Doc Terror’s Flying Fortress, disabling it and shutting down the beam. Free from the time stasis, Crystal beams Jake aboard, and the team ushers in the new year.
Weapons? Check. Teleporters? Yup. Dracula? Umm... So put on your Exo-Frame, yell Power Extreme, and dive into this episode on the Centurions!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (w/ Thom Crowe)
Totally Rad Christmas!
12/04/23 • 42 min
What’s up, dudes? I’ve got the amazing Thom Crowe from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to talk about the holiday classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” Shown throughout the ‘80s, the special was a staple during December, and has remained so.
In 1988, it was released on VHS, and according to the cover box:
“Dr. Seuss is back with his tongue-twisting verse and lighthearted music to delight children of every age. What holiday would be complete without this timeless tale of the mean-spirited Grinch and his feeble attempt to steal the Yuletide celebration of Whoville?
The crotchety Grinch with ‘termites in his smile’ and ‘garlic in his soul’ tries once again to wipe out Christmas for the cheerful Whos, only to discover the true spirit of the holiday season lies beyond his covetous grasp.
Narrated by the great Boris Karloff and featuring such musical favorites as ‘You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch’ and ‘Trim Up the Tree,’ Dr. Seuss’ ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ will warm the most miserly heart. Don’t miss this animated confection—it’s a perfect festival of fun for the entire family!”
Bingle balls? Check. Who flop fluff? Yep. Bizzle binks and wungs? Not sure what they are, but they’re here too! So grab your faithful sidekick pup, put on your Santy Claus costume, and sleigh right into this episode!

Roger Rabbit and the Christmas Factory (w/ Tim Babb)
Totally Rad Christmas!
12/11/23 • 65 min
What’s up, dudes? In 1988, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was a huge hit, and introduced us to the titular character. Disney then thought it was a great idea to give him his own Disneyland show! I’ve got Tim Babb from Can’t Wait for Christmas with me to talk all about this bonkers Roger Rabbit Christmas stage show! Yes, it’s “Roger Rabbit and the Christmas Factory!”
It’s Christmas Eve, and Santa’s still looking to hire an elf to help him meet his quota before the big delivery. Subsequently Murray, the elf foreman, hires Roger Rabbit. Roger is in charge of using supercomputer MACS to produce toys. As he falls behind, he cranks up the speed and accidentally halts production. Attempting to fix MACS, Roger accidentally clones himself. After he completes his repairs, he begins to once again manufacture toys. Unfortunately he picks up speed and, in a moment of sheer desperation, hits the panic button. With the supercomputer down, and the Holiday Clock reminding him time is short, Roger must rely on Santa to fix the situation.
New York accented head elf? Got it. Toon Town stylized SkyNet AI? It’s in there. Anthropomorphic Christmas trees and computer manual “Manuel?” Well... So grab your elf hat, head to Disneyland, and enjoy this episode full of Roger Rabbit Christmas shenanigans!
