In this Community Discussion episode, we asked the question "Do Instructional Designers Need Coding Skills?" The short answer is No. But - there is also a very strong case to answer that question with "It depends". Ultimately, the question can only be answered by defining the kind of instructional designer you're going to be, for example, a free lancer or a single person on a small ID team that might not have access to developers or coders.

Take a listen to the episode and you'll hear some great feedback from the audience that was composed of some strong instructional design veterans.

Also in this episode, we dive a bit into a project guest Carlita Godsey is working on. She's building a course on American Sign Language and reached out to the Community in this episode to see if she needed to learn how to code to be able to make her course better.

And Ankit offers an excellent foundation of how to start the conversations and hopefully, produce effective dialog that will help address what is at the forefront of most current discussion in our society - the topic of race.

Talking about race can be very uncomfortable. But it's an important topic to address, and having these discussions is an incredible opportunity for us to move forward.

TLDCast Podcast - TLDC Member Showcase: Kim Lindsey
play

04/27/20 • 35 min

Welcome to another Training, Learning, and Development Community podcast episode. Thanks for tuning in. In case you're wondering if you're in the right place, this podcast is for folks that are involved in corporate training, instructional technology, workplace training --- basically anyone in the world of L&D or Learning and Development.

This episode is part of a new series we're doing on Community Members called Member Showcase.

In this time of social distancing, quarantining, and sheltering in place, it feels right to explore other ways to get to know one another, and in this case, a virtual chat.

Look at it this way: in lieu of cancelled conferences, events, and meetups - why not share our stories in a podcast and get to know each other that way?

So in 30 minutes and a dozen or so questions, we're profiling practitioners just like you.

And I hope this creates more connections in a time of disconnect, and we continue to help one another overcome our challenges - together.

So in this episode, Kim Lindsey.

Kim is an instructional designer at Cinecraft, a high end custom eLearning solutions company. A former lab technician, she's a writer, power Microsoft Word user, and absolutely passionate about helping her learners. Enjoy the episode.

You can find the original video chat of the episode here: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/member-showcase-kim.

In this episode we had guest Craig Sybert, an Adobe Connect and Adobe Captivate Prime expert over at Envolvemedia. We wanted to get some real talk from Craig, and hear what he liked and didn't like about Adobe Captivate Prime. It was a great conversation that covered why Prime may or may not be right for you. What stood out most to me was the integrative capabilities of the LMS, especially with Connect and Captivate.

But give it a listen. It's well worth hearing some honest conversation about this LMS and how it might fit in to your L&D plans.

Enjoy the episode!
