This week - at long last - the elves discuss the beloved, 1988 Christmas-family film, Ernest Saves Christmas! Anthony, once again finding himself on an island alone, sets the tone for this conversation early on in the "History" portion of the episode in which he goes on his most passionate (some might say - unhinged?) rant since the hosts covered Arthur Christmas - one that clocks in at just under 5 1/2 minutes! Julia and Thom, meanwhile, have much more good feelings of comfort and joy regarding this film, fueled in large part by nostalgia. While there is an enormous divide between the New Yorker and the two Oklahomans, this is still a fun, laugh-a-plenty episode that culminates with the elves discussing their different Advent traditions and Julia pulling a fast-one on Thom and nailing a joke that he's been trying to land for weeks now. So open those windows, let in those Autumn breezes, settle back with your favorite pumpkin drink, and enjoy!

Happy Tuesday Christmas fanatics!

Apologies again that this episode is dropping a day late, but as you know - life gets in the way at times! Which is also the reason why Thom is absent from this episode and we had to reshuffle our schedule a bit! So while we were originally planning our return to Halloweentown this week, instead, Julia and Anthony continue the show's sojourn through Spooky Season by traveling to Elm Street and Camp Crystal Lake to cover the 2003 Slash of the Titans, "Freddy vs. Jason"!

Not only has Julia never seen this movie before, but she's never seen any movie featuring Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees before! Which, of course, makes her the perfect elf to host tonight's show! What does she think of it? Well, you can probably guess - but that doesn't make this episode any less entertaining! Especially since she finds herself at odds with Anthony who unabashedly loves this film!

Listen as your two hosts walk you through the plot beat-by-nonsensical-beat, critique the horrific acting, and fill in key pieces of context and history from the two iconic slashers individual franchises as needed! Also discussed: Mike Flanagan's various horror shows; Amazon Prime's new film, "Totally Killer"; the teased "Seinfeld" revival; the Halloween plans of Julia's children; and the end of Anthony's hunt for Hallmark's popular Betty White/Rose Nylund "The Golden Girls" ornament!

This is one fun episode you want to be sure not to miss! (As is the bonus episode we dropped in your feeds this past Sunday, so make sure you give that one a download and listen as well!) So settle back with your Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, put your feet up, and enjoy! And, as always, thanks for your love and support y'all! ❤️ 🍂 🎃👻🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics! We hope all of our Canadian and American friends are having a great long weekend! To our listeners in Canada - we hope you had a wonderful Canada Day! And to our listeners in America - we hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July tomorrow!

This week, Julia, Thom, and Anthony travel back to the eighties to cover the two Christmas episodes of the beloved sitcom, "Who's the Boss?"! For those who want to watch along at home, the episodes covered are:

  • Season 3 - Episode 11 - The Christmas Card
  • Season 5 - Episode 8 - A Spirited Christmas

While both episodes invoked a sense of cozy nostalgia for our hosts, one definitely holds up and resonates with them more than the other! Which one? Well, you'll have to tune in to find out!

Also discussed this episode? Anthony's thoughts on "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny"; the opinions of all three hosts on the DCU's newly cast Superman and Lois Lane - David Corenswet and Rachel Broshnahan - in addition to their fan-casts for the other main roles of Lex Luthor, Ma and Pa Kent, Jor-El, Perry White, and Jimmy Olsen; Fourth of July plans; and much, much more!

There’s a lot of false positivity in this episode as the elves attempt to summon every bit of Christmas cheer they have just to make it through discussing this awful reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. Truly a new low (the rating is abysmal), they find much to dislike about this movie (read: everything). They manage to end on a high, however, when discussing their most memorable Christmas gift-opening experiences from childhood, and are all in agreement about how excited they are to talk about next week’s movie. In the meantime, enjoy our blissfully short conversation about 2013’s All American Christmas Carol – we’re truly sorry for making you go out of your way to watch it.

This week, Julia, Thom, and Anthony cover the 2020, Netflix original holiday film, Holidate! The opinions on this movie range all over the spectrum between the three elves with this one, as users speculated they would on social media in advance of this recording, and debate rages about whether the main relationship in this movie feels real, whether this qualifies as a Christmas movie, whether or not any film set in the present should be set at malls anymore, and whether or not this is merely a Hallmark Holiday movie dressed up with a dash of raunch and a plethora of vulgarity. Plus, Anthony once again finds himself on the opposite side of wide divide from Thom and Julia as it pertains to the the idea of infidelity in movies and television shows. In addition to all of this, the elves discuss how they spent their Halloweens, Thom teases a new podcast he's launching with another host within the Christmas Podcast Network, Anthony talks briefly about The Dresden Files short story "Christmas Eve", and Julia expresses her excitement for next week's scheduled film! All of this and much, much more takes place within this festive, laugh-a-plenty episode that you want to be sure not to miss. So settle in beside your Christmas tree with your favorite Starbucks Holiday-Flavored drink in this year's beautifully designed Red Cup, relax, and enjoy!
Also, as mentioned within the episode itself, the elves have a new, exciting, additional way planned to count down to Christmas 2021 next year, so if any of y'all would be interested in taking part in that, reach out to one of them via the Facebook Group and let them know!
In addition, for those of you who are patrons of the show, keep your eye out for the debut minisode of "Tis the Podcast: After Dark", dropping this upcoming Wednesday - because some things shouldn't be heard by the entire world. Hint: In it, one of the elves tells an extraordinarily embarrassing story from a few years back that will have you rolling with disgusted laughter.

Happy Monday, Christmas Fanatics!

Due to the elves' busy work schedules, we couldn't get a new episode recorded this week! But never fear! We have a timely, once patreon-exclusive episode dropping for you!

This past week, [HBO] Max confirmed they are moving forward with a television adaptation of the "Harry Potter" books, adapting one book per season and producing all seven seasons over the course of a decade! Naturally, this elicited a lot of excitement online, and fan-casting has been running rampant!

Well, back in February, when rumors of a potential "Harry Potter" remake began swirling around, Julia, Thom, and Anthony gathered to recast the main adult characters in the series for the then hypothetical series!

We know what you're thinking! Could anyone ever possibly top Alan Rickman as Snape, Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall, or any of the other incredible, British alumni that were part of the original cast? Probably not. But, we do our best to cast excellent actors and actresses in their own right to follow in those iconic footsteps, adhering slightly closer to the descriptions, personalities, and age ranges as established in J.K. Rowling's beloved book series. The only limitations we set for ourselves were: we couldn't choose the same actor for a role they played previously; and we wouldn't limit ourselves to British thespians. The result? Three very different, but equally as fun, fan-cast lists that we think you'll all enjoy!

So, settle back and enjoy this super fun blast from the recent past you want to be sure not to miss! As always, thanks for your love and support! We love y'all! 🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

This week, the elves tackle the 2015 dramedy film, Love the Coopers. Does this all-star cast portray the dysfunctional family of Julia's dreams, or this holiday film movie flat? Also discussed this episode are our playlists comprising of Christmas film scores, and an important milestone that is hit - we are officially only 100 days until Christmas! So settle back with your favorite holiday drink and enjoy this fun discussion about the Cooper Family's Christmas celebration!

Happy Sunday, Christmas fanatics!

To celebrate the fact that as of today we're officially halfway through October, we thought we'd drop this bonus Spooky Season episode in your main feeds as a little surprise for you!

You've heard us refer to it a few times already in other episode, but it's finally here: The 2023 "Tis the Podcast" Ultimate Horror Movie Bracket!

In this special episode, Anthony is joined by a whole slew of special guests and self-labeled horror aficionados to determine the best horror movie ever, March Madness style! The guests include:

Listen as they debate and argue in real time to determine which horror movies advance through this NCAA-esque scary movie bracket as iconic films are pitted against one another in four different "divisions" for a chance to be named the best horror movie!

  • Are Christmas-themed scares frightening enough to go far?
  • Will Freddy or Jason best the other?
  • Does Ghostface stand a chance against Michael Myers?
  • Can The Warrens successfully exorcise Pazuzu?
  • Can "Jaws" take a bite out of "Alien"?
  • Is a psychopathic adult posing as a child scarier than a child who is literally the Antichrist?
  • Will Art, Pennywise, or "The Klowns" reign supreme as the scariest movie clown(s) and can any of them win it all?
  • Are Hitchcock or the Universal Monsters timeless enough to overcome more modern horrors?
  • Can Jigsaw outmaneuver participants of the Purge?
  • Despite its undeniable style, does A24 offer enough substantive scares in its movies to go the distance?

All of these questions and much, much more are answered in this extraordinarily fun episode full of quotes, impressions, trivia, nostalgia, and laughs. This is one you definitely do not want to miss - even if it'll take you a few sittings to finish it given its length. (That's What She Said.) But that's what happens when you get a bunch of scary movie buffs onto a recording together - there's a lot of passionate gushing and vigorous debate going on here in an episode that took three recordings and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to finish, which is why we've decided to drop this in your main feed instead of on Patreon.

So settle in with your Pumpkin Spice Lattes, relax, and enjoy! And make sure to let us known on social media what your hosts got right, what they got wrong, and which horror movie you think should have come out on top!

As always, thanks for your love and support, y'all! ❤️ 🍂 🎃👻🎅🏻🎄🎁 🦌🦉⛄️🔔🚂 🤶🏻 🎀 ❄️

*Note: As this episode was originally intended for Patreon, there may be some adult language and content in this episode that hasn't been edited out. So keep that in mind before listening with truly young ears!*

They cover some overlooked Christmas movies. The episodes without Tom are the best.
