Tis the Podcast

This week - at long last - the elves discuss the beloved, 1988 Christmas-family film, Ernest Saves Christmas! Anthony, once again finding himself on an island alone, sets the tone for this conversation early on in the "History" portion of the episode in which he goes on his most passionate (some might say - unhinged?) rant since the hosts covered Arthur Christmas - one that clocks in at just under 5 1/2 minutes! Julia and Thom, meanwhile, have much more good feelings of comfort and joy regarding this film, fueled in large part by nostalgia. While there is an enormous divide between the New Yorker and the two Oklahomans, this is still a fun, laugh-a-plenty episode that culminates with the elves discussing their different Advent traditions and Julia pulling a fast-one on Thom and nailing a joke that he's been trying to land for weeks now. So open those windows, let in those Autumn breezes, settle back with your favorite pumpkin drink, and enjoy!

After a much needed (though unwanted!) week off, the elves are back, and they're once again journeying across the pond to cover the 2009, Holiday-Comedy film, Nativity! There's plenty of love for this movie to go around this week - how could there not be when it stars Martin Freeman? - and there are laughs-a-plenty as the hosts talk about their favorite parts and scenes! Also discussed: plenty of listener feedback and their ideas for what they would do if they were put in charge of making the 2020 John Lewis commercial! So settle in, blast that air-conditioning, enjoy this festive episode, and celebrate the fact that we are officially only nineteen-weeks from Christmas!

Literary Month continues this week as Julia, Thom, and Anthony discuss the 2016 movie, The Christmas Project, based on Matthew Buckley's books Chickens in the Headlights and Bullies in the Headlights. Is this movie anything more than a weak attempt at trying to replicate what A Christmas Story did in 1983 in a much more juvenile fashion, or is there actually merit to this 80's set story about "elving"? Settle in with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and find out, and get excited because we are officially less than 100 days until Christmas!

This is an exciting week (and an extra-long episode - our longest to date!) as we're joined by Patron, Joshua Bruce, who picked The Christmas Candle, the 2013 movie based on the book of the same name, written by Max Lucado. Joshua joins the elves in hopes of seeing "Angry Anthony" - is he holding the right candle for that wish to come true? Tune in to see and get an update from the elves about living in quarantine, listen to them speak about their favorite musicians, and hear the elves reveal their wedding songs. It's a fun episode so settle in, relax, and share the warmth of the Christmas candle with us.
