11/20/21 • 43 min

Grab your letterman’s jackets and dancing shoes, it’s a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

There was another late-breaking case of “budget cuts” from the WWE this week. This included the faction Hit Row just weeks after they made their debuts on Smackdown! We’ll lament the talent lost and try to make sense of it all.

But it’s not all bad news, AEW had another really good PPV this past weekend. It showcase everything that the promotion does well (like paying off long term stories) and not so well (like still having just one women’s match on the show).

All of that, plus a look at how to cheat on retro video games. Seriously!

Main Event

Sometimes we're not quite sure what to pick for the main event, we let Danielle play with one of her requests. This time we're going to take a look at the wrestlers who have appeared on Dancing with the Stars! Dancing with the Superstars, if you will.

The Three Count

Hal put over Paul Heyman’s business advice for AEW

Danielle put over Xavier Woods’ promo on twitter

Julian put over CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston

Hosted by Hal Lublin and Danielle Radford

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com

Hal Lublin is joined by producer Julian Burrell to talk about one of the most memorable failures that WWE ever attempted: The resurrection of the ECW brand and promotion.

In 2006, a year after a successful ECW “One Night Stand” PPV, WWE decided to bring back Extreme Championship Wrestling as their third brand. First they wanted it to be a web exclusive show that Shane McMahon would be in charge of. But they eventually got Sci-Fi Network to buy in and settled on ECW, the weekly TV show.

The Three Count:

Julian put over the eternal joy of Money Plane

Hal put over the Miz’s most memorable promo.

Hosted by Hal Lublin and Julian Burrell

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

In celebration of the Max Fun Drive, we recorded an episode LIVE for our Facebook group.

We asked you all for Main Event ideas for our regular episodes, but got so many suggestions that we couldn’t help but give them all some love. You’ll hear us discuss important things like why the rise of Orange Cassidy has worked so well and the value of managers in wrestling. Plus we’ll talk about some silly things like Lindsey’s cats and the worst rules for a flag match ever.

Hosted by Hal Lublin and Lindsey Kelk

Tights and Fights - Ep. 268: Wrestling is Women's Work
play

Check your draft card, it’s a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

There’s going to be plenty of new faces on RAW and SmackDown. The women’s champions are now on each others’ brands which we imagine will make for some fun hijinks in the future. Plus there are some NXT call ups that we’re really excited about.

And speaking of NXT 2.0... we’re sorry to report that it’s really not good. There’s some bright spots, but there’s also a bunch of really questionable characters and creative decisions that we’re afraid just aren’t working (and it doesn’t all have to do with those lights).

Where do we go from here? Unfortunately to Crown Jewel (and no, we’re still not going to talk about. Looks like a good card though).

Main Event

AEW is officially two years old. It was founded on the promise of “AEW is for Everyone.” We’ve banged on about how they’ve failed to live up to that promise and will go into detail here. But there’s also something new in the air where we may have found a lot more to focus on and enjoy as we entire Dynamite’s third year.

The Three Count

Danielle put over Amanda Huber showcasing her son’s wrestling future.

Lindsey put over the G1 Climax.

Hal put over Dolph Ziggler’s long memory.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

We had a break and a breather and back with a NEWWWWW Tights and Fights!

What better way to bring us back than Hal geeking out about the love that the 76ers got from all the wrestlers this past week? But that’s not the only NBA crossover into wrestling: Basketball booted AEW from it’s regular time slot!

Plus we’ll discuss what appears to be Kofi Kingston’s return to the main event title picture, Big E beginning his feud with Aleister Black and the very first title win of Tamina’s career.

Main Event

Booker T recently got a career documentary on the A&E Network. Conspicuously absent was one of the biggest matches of his career: against Triple H for the World Championship at WrestleMania 19. The feud is mainly known for how truly racist the language was on the build to the event. How bad was it? Could it have been saved?

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Break out the ice-cold corn dogs, it’s a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

We’ve been a little pessimistic about NXT 2.0, but we did get to see some great women’s wrestling on the show this week and our first faction holding all the women’s titles!

Plus, AEW’s gotten the TBS title off to a really good start. But we’re faced with the duality of the promotion with fun things like Shida vs. Deeb and the Elite’s Halloween match on one side; and the Bobby Fish vs. CM Punk on the other. We’ll explain.

Plus: frozen corn dogs help with swelling!

Main Event:

Xavier Woods has said that he had two major goals in WWE: help Kofi Kingston win the WWE championship and to win the King of the Ring tournament. And as of last week he’s officially 2 for 2!

The Three Count

Lindsey put over Bianca Belair's promo on RAW.

Danielle put over The Miz's spooky dance.

Hosted by Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

It will be a Tights and Fights forever etched in history!

We’ve watched two full nights of WrestleMania and we’re rarin’ to talk about it all!

Of course, the emotional high point and the match that captured the hearts of millions was Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks which closed out night one. Tears were shed, emotions were had, triumph was felt by all.

In fact, all of night one had moments we loved, from McIntyre and Lashley over-delivering to Cesaro finally getting his big singles moment and so much more.

While night two didn’t quite reach the emotional highs, it did deliver some solid matches in its own right. But we’re still left with questions: Where does Apollo Crews go from his big win? Can anyone stop Roman Reigns? How much longer will The Fiend be in a box?

Let’s whip our hair out and get to it!

Yo-ho, Yo-ho, a Tights and Fights life for me!

We’ve got two great nights of wrestling to cover from NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver to get through. New champions were crowned, exciting new directions were promised and it was full of the exciting action you’d expect from an NXT event.

Who are we most excited to see in the aftermath of this? Who are we still unsure about?

Plus, we’ll talk about the official end of two important events: the ratings “war” between AEW and NXT... and Kota Ibushi’s godhood.

The Three Count

Hal put over LA Knight’s promo at TakeOver

Lindsey put over The Bella Twins in the Hall of Fame

Danielle put over the love between Bianca Belair and Naomi

Julian put over Ethel Johnson and the people properly protecting her legacy

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Tights and Fights - Ep. 366: Jade Cargill to WWE
play

09/23/23 • 48 min

Lindsey Kelk returns from her brief COVID hiatus to join us on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

We talked a lot about Bryan Danielson last week, but what’s one more conversation? Does Lindsey believe that he’s on his way out to build houses for the needy or will he always have one foot in the business despite himself?

And when there’s a workers’ strike on the way, the wrestlers will play! The Rock and John Cena have decided to make time for the WWE now that their schedules have cleared up. How much can we expect from them? And do we still hope all the great wrestlers we have now won’t take a back seat to Dwayne on the road to Mania (No it’s never to early to think about it!)

The Main Event: Jade Cargill

By the standards of its women's division, AEW invested a lot in Jade Cargill. She went on a lengthy undefeated streak and was their inaugural TBS champion. But it also felt like they put a ceiling on what she was allowed to achieve. Now word is that she's left the company and will make her way to the WWE Performance Center.

The Three Count:

Lindsey put over About Face Eye shadowsticks.

Danielle put over Katy Perry and the spinner Belt.

Hal put over Fruity Pebbles with marshmallows.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford, and Lindsey Kelk.

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

The music for our new promo is provided by Incompetech.com
