Tigers in 20: A Memphis Tigers Athletics podcast

In episode 94 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler, GT247 founder Brooks Hansen, GT247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield and GT247 vet Jonah Jordan discuss the latest in Memphis football and basketball.

To begin the episode, Fowler and Jordan discuss the recent additions of Michigan State transfers Devontae Dobbs and Julian Barnett. Dobbs and Barnett are the two highest-ranked player to ever commit and sign with Memphis, and coach Ryan Silverfield was able to do that in a matter of hours.

Dobbs is a 6-foot-4, 304-pound offensive lineman and Barnett is a 6-foot-2 cornerback/wide receiver, and both players have the potential to make an immediate impact for the Tigers. Fowler and Jordan also go into detail about how much better Memphis has gotten thus far with the 2021 class and the two big time transfers.

Next, the GT247 crew previews the Montgomery Bowl between Memphis and Florida Atlantic. The Tigers and the Owls will play on December 23 at 6:00 p.m. CST, and Memphis will be looking for their first bowl win since the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl.

Throughout the preview of the game, Fowler, Jordan and Hansen break down why Memphis should win this game and what they need to do to ensure that they come back to Memphis victorious. This will be Brady White's last game in a Memphis uniform, so the players will likely give their all for him.

After all the positivity in the football discussion, the mood and tone of the podcast shifts very quickly when the subject moves to basketball. Penny Hardaway and the Tigers lost a game that they definitely should've won against Tulsa, and the loss was a microcosim of the season up to this point.

Memphis looked terrible offensively, and they made too many mistakes at the end of the game. The crew gives their thoughts on the loss, and they explain why they believe the Tigers are struggling so badly this year.

From the coaching to the players and every aspect in between, the GT247 crew gives their brutally honest opinions.

Tigers in 20 - Ep 93: DeAndre Williams, Alex Lomax & rotations

In episode 93 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler, GT247 founder Brooks Hansen and GT247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield discuss the latest in Memphis basketball following the Tigers' win over Tulane.

To begin the episode, the crew recaps Memphis' six-point win over the Green Wave. Although the Tigers got off to a hot start, Tulane was able to come back and make it a one-point game before the half.

Fowler, Hansen and Stubblefield give their biggest takeaways from the game, including the rotations, performances from bench players, DeAndre Williams' debut and more. In his first game as a Tiger, Williams was clearly a difference maker and likely would've had a massive stat line if he wasn't in foul trouble.

The trio gives their opinion on the type of impact the Evansville transfer can have on the team for the rest of the season. After the Williams discussion, the GT247 crew discusses Alex Lomax.

The junior guard has struggled for the majority of the season, and they explain what he's doing wrong and how Penny Hardaway can fix it. In Hansen's opinion, Hardaway needs to shorten the rotation.

There are too many players coming off the bench that aren't making an impact, so Hardaway has to keep his best players on the floor if this team is going to be successful.

Off the Boards: GT247 breaks down Gunnell's transfer to Memphis

In this episode of Off the Boards, host and lead writer Christian Fowler and GT247 veteran Jonah Jordan sit down to discuss Grant Gunnell and his transfer to Memphis. The former Arizona quarterback transferred to Memphis on Thursday, and Fowler and Jordan break down what it means for the Tigers.

With Brady White now gone, the addition of Gunnell is massive. Memphis was going to have a quarterback competition leading up to next season between former three-star prospect Keilon Brown and LSU transfer Peter Parrish, but Gunnell is now the best quarterback on roster.

There will certainly still be a competition because head coach Ryan Silverfield and offensive coordinator Kevin Johns aren't going to hand Gunnell the starting job, but he has to be the heavy favorite to be Memphis' signal caller when the 2021-2022 season begins.

Gunnell has the prototypical quarterback size at 6-foot-6, and he has a ton of arm talent and potential. In his limited number of starts with the Wildcats, he proved why he was a very highly touted prospect coming out of high school.

Fowler and Jordan discuss what it says about Silverfield and staff now that they've landed transfers from Arizona and Michigan State. With Gunnell and former Spartans Devontae Dobbs and Julian Barnett on board, the staff is proving that they can land elite transfers.
