In this week's episode, Northeast president Ricky G. Ford gives some great news to the employees of Northeast Mississippi Community College, the Mississippi Legislature is sending them a gift that will boost their pocketbooks in not only 2023 but 2024 as well. Tune into this week's podcast to see just how much the college will be able to increase employee pay. In addition to being able to award the hardest working employees in the nation, Ford talks about "Fan Day" at the NEMCC Baseball/Softball Complex on Wednesday, April 6 where the first 50 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative Northeast souvenir. First pitch is at 3 p.m. as the Tiger baseball team takes on East Mississippi and gates open at 2 p.m. Ford gives credit to the Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society with its recent awards at the Mississippi/Louisiana Regional convention where the PTK was named the Most Distinguished Chapter for the region and also was named the top REACH Award winner, which is given to the chapter that has the highest percentage of new members accepting membership into the society. Ford announces the four individuals who have been selected for the NEMCC Hall of Fame and reminds all that Honors Day is scheduled for Monday, April 18 at 6 p.m.

In this week's episode, Northeast president Ricky G. Ford returns from a two-week hiatus to inform the public about all the things happening at one of the top community colleges in the nation. Ford tells listeners that the college is on the downhill side of the semester and there are just a few weeks remaining until graduation and students will be leaving campus to transfer to four-year colleges and universities, picking up a trade or heading into the workforce with the best training that the college can give them. In an update on events, Ford talks about Sealant Day at the Dental Hygiene Program on the fourth floor of Childers Hall where second graders from around Prentiss County come in to get sealant placed on their teeth. This event also so interdivision cooperation as many of the health science programs come together to help make this event a success. Ford gives an update on events that include a giveaway by the Marketing/PR Committees of a commemorative golden stress ball with a Northeast logo at the April 6 baseball game and the April 12 softball game. The first 50 fans through the gates will get a chance at the giveaway. Ford also talks about the Mobile Learning Conference on June 13 and June 14, Priority Registration Day on April 8, Honors Day on April 18 and the final Campus Country showtime of the school year on April 21. Tickets are already on sale for the showtime and will sell out quickly so contact any member of the Division of Fine Arts for tickets. Ford discusses the upcoming Dual Enrollment Orientation on April 22 for those who may be considering dual enrolling in Northeast while still in high school and the summer freshman orientations on June 9, 16, 23 and July 12. In his final segment, the college president gives a rundown of what has been happening at the Mississippi legislature as it concerns funding, revenue and appropriation bills.

In just under 11 minutes, Northeast president Ricky G. Ford thanks everyone for the calls, texts, letters, and concerns over the passing of his mother last week. In a heartfelt message, Ford expresses thanks to the Northeast family for making sure his family was comforted in this time of sorrow. In an update to the Strategic Doing committees, Ford talks about the total involvement that everyone has on the Strategic Doing committees and the ability for everyone on campus to have a voice through the committees. In keeping with his legislative update from last week, Ford discusses the upcoming pay increase that the Mississippi legislature has set aside for community college employees and after the 15 community colleges in the state get their share of the $11 million allocated...it comes out to a 3% across the board raise for all Northeast employees. In addition to the pay increase, Ford is thankful to the legislature for setting aside $7.5 million for Northeast for capital improvements and renovations. In a construction update, Ford talks about the Outdoor Classrooms, the MDOT Phase II Project, and the ongoing renovations to Seth Pounds Auditorium. Ford also discusses all the open positions that the college has after the announcement of 11 retirees for the 2021-2022 academic year and encourages anyone to apply for those positions and become part of the Northeast family and a member of one of the premier community colleges in the United States plus many more topics concerning Northeast Mississippi Community College.
