Seeing the Same
Tidings Magazine
11/28/23 • 7 min
Joann Sweet recounts her mission trip to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador where she discovered both similarities and differences. Despite the cold climate and unique traditions, she found that people there share common values like helping one another, having fun, attending church, and loving God. Joann encourages us to focus on what makes us the same rather than different and reminds us that God created us all in his image.
Make Your Own Moose!
Because this animal is in almost every province in Canada, let's use our hands and feet to make a craft -- a picture of a moose!
You need:
- Your foot
- Your hands
- 2 googley eyes
- Glue
- Scissors
- Tan-coloured paint
- Brown construction paper
- A paper plate larger than your hand
- A sheet of white paper smaller than your feet
Instructions:
- Draw around your foot on brown construction paper. Cut out your foot shape and glue it onto the sheet of white paper with the heel near the bottom of the paper. This will be the moose's head.
- Glue two googley eyes just above the centre of the moose's head.
- Pour a little tan-coloured paint onto a paper plate. Moose have large antlers so place your left hand into the paint with your fingers closed and then place your handprint on the left top side of the moose's head. Do another handprint on top of the first one but have your fingers open and place your hand on top of the first print with your fingers just above it.
- Follow the instructions in Step 3 but place your handprints on the right top side of the moose's head.
Now you have a great picture of a moose to help you remember that God created us in his image!
