play

Journalist and broadcaster Anna Hart is fearless when it comes to ‘the extreme sport’ that is solo travel, from gorilla-tracking in Rwanda, to driving the ice roads of the Canadian Arctic. She even goes to festivals alone – the ultimate test! Although there’s a myth that going solo is more expensive, Anna gives her advice on how to have big adventures on a small budget. We also talked about wild swimming in Austin, cycling in Bavaria and the emerging food scene in Lithuania. Plus, her genius packing hacks, including solid toothpaste.

Photojournalist Emily’s work has taken her all over the world, from the coffee farms of Ethiopia to the rain forests of Borneo, via the mud baths of Romania. On a recent visit to Iraq she captured the annual cross-country Arbaeen pilgrimage as she too walked the 500km. Twice! She gives her tips for travelling solo to places which are seen as dangerous or difficult for a woman on her own, and how important it is to rip up the must-see list and get off the beaten track. Hence why she worked in India for six years, without seeing the Taj Mahal.
