Thoughts From the Pickup Line

Welcome to episode 3 of Thoughts From the Pickup Line, hosted by Tyler Smith and Brandon “BG” Gregg, two financial planners and family men from Indiana, who wanted to create a finance podcast about more than just finance.

Every week on Thoughts From the Pickup Line, listen to Tyler and BG give their thoughts on financial planning and investments, family, the things that bring them joy, the challenges they encounter along the way, and how they overcome them.

During their weekly check-in, the guys announce the newest member of the BBK team, give an update on the new office, and finally reveal the secret... what does BBK stand for, and where does the meaning come from?

Turning to financial planning, Tyler and BG have chosen volatility as their topic of the week. They explain how to find the positives in a volatile market, and give three key pieces of advice for investing in one—with or without an advisor.

Of course, it’s Pokémon time. Tyler talks battle decks his daughter got for her first communion, while BG goes into collecting vintage cards and playing with his son.

The Wordle wars are in full force. With a 49-day winning streak, can BG even be beat? Plus, the guys share their favorite strategies for playing.

This week, when thinking about investments they like, the guys talk about the stability that investing in healthcare can provide right now, as well as the growth potential for companies like CVS and Johnson + Johnson.

To close out the episode, Tyler and BG share their Thoughts From The Pickup Line. Tyler talks about his son’s soccer games, and a funny faux pas at his daughter’s first communion. BG shouts out two friends—doctors and parents—who have worked tirelessly to keep our community safe during the pandemic.
