Thirst evolves as we age and mature, and sometimes it's that maturity you... crave. This week, we swoon over some seasoned baes ("zaddies," if you will, though Bim wishes you wouldn't) — classics such as Laurence Fishburne, Bruce Willis, Jesse L. Martin, and more. We have a couple of guests: Twitter favorite @vinabean tells us about her love for Blair Underwood, and fairy pod-mom Tracy Clayton of Another Round stops by for a rousing discussion on smooth-skinned piece-of-hallelujah-sex bae, Don Cheadle. Have a spray bottle for Fanfic Wars, it's gets pretty hot in the studio...

Thirst Aid Kit - No Chill With Yahya and Simu
play

04/16/20 • 69 min

For a long time, it’s felt like superpowers only went to lantern-jawed white men... but if we urge you to consider two up-and-coming Thirst Objects: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II — who started his comic book adaptation career as a villain in Aquaman before donning the blue paint of Watchmen’s Dr Manhattan — and Simu Liu, who went from Toronto car rental outfit in Kim’s Convenience to “master of kung fu” Shang-Chi in the upcoming Marvel movie. Sure, representation matters etc but it’s important to note that these two are tall drinks of water and we want several sips.

In this week’s Slate Plus, we’re joined by multi-hyphenate award-winning author and editor Roxane Gay, tackling Channing Tatum in ‘Explain Yourself’... Roxane is working on a couple projects with Channing, and the thing is, we’re already kinda onboard, so it’s more of a ‘tell us more” than “tell us why.” It’s a good time.

In the beginning, Mahershala Ali invented the color yellow, and we all saw that it was Good. This week's episode is all about the beautiful sunshine of his smile, his thoughts on explicit love scenes, his black cat, and much more. We also have another edition of Thirst Sommelier for a listener looking recommendations in the ~ vicinity ~ of Andrew Lincoln. And of course, we battle it out in Fanfic Wars (plus we read one of your listener-submitted drabbles!).

Thirst Aid Kit - The 2019 Thirst Report
play

12/19/19 • 61 min

What a year 2019 has been! After a 9-month hiatus, Thirst Aid Kit found a new home at Slate and we had much to catch up on— so much so that we weren’t able to get to as many listener-submitted drabbles or Thirst Sommelier requests as we wanted. In this episode, we correct that oversight by answering some questions from our tumblr page, helping a couple of Thirst Buckets find a new Nick Miller from New Girl and a new Nicholas Braun (aka Cousin Greg of Succession) to crush on, and by reading some drabbles about Chris Evans, Frank Ocean, and Chris Pang. We also highlight some key moments in thirst: Manny Jacinto’s infamous jawline, Keanu Reeves’ Renaissance, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s everything, and Chris Evans’ knitwear in Knives Out! Thank you to all of our listeners, old and new, for lusting out loud with us. We’ll be back in the new year, and until then, stay thirsty!

Thirst Aid Kit - The Golden Baes of Hollywood
play

04/19/18 • 48 min

If you're anything like us, and we think you are, you'll remember watching black-and-white movies and feeling *things* for the handsome leads without even understanding *why*. Well, we're here to help, using a quartet of stars from Hollywood's golden age: Paul Newman, Cary Grant, Gene Kelly, and Gregory Peck. Wit, charm, and grace for days! These golden baes paved the way for today's movie stars, but what about the stars who weren't so fair? The film industry still has a long way to go when it comes to inclusive representation — how is he "tall, dark and handsome" if he ain't actually dark?! — and in this episode, we'll address the respectability politics and stereotypes that kept men of color off the romantic radar in the early years of Hollywood. Grab your popcorn and fasten your seatbelts, thirst-buckets — Fanfic Wars is going to be a bumpy ride.

Thirst Aid Kit - And Our Heart Goes to...Oscar Isaac!
play

03/29/18 • 44 min

We’re back, thirst-buckets! And we're starting our new season off with a sultry bang – it's the internet's boyfriend, Oscar Isaac! Whether you know him as Llewyn Davis, Star Wars' Poe Dameron, or from a thumb-licking reaction gif (!), you can’t take your eyes off him, and neither can we. Join us as we discuss Oscar’s career trajectory, how he navigates Hollywood as a Latinx, how he manages to look great with curls, shaven-headed, bestubbled, clean-shaven or full-bearded (like, is he a wizard?), and of course, those eyebrows! As usual, we have a couple of drabbles featuring Oscar in Fanfic Wars, and they're...intimate. *eyes emoji* Hit play now!

Thirst Aid Kit - Bim’s Thirst 123s

It’s Bim’s turn to delve into the roots of her thirst habits — and naturally, it turned out to be a journey through TV and film! Watching Tevin Campbell sing to Ashley on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and falling in love with Dwayne Wayne on A Different World led naturally to a love for Capeside’s finest, Pacey Witter... and also the Blue Moon Agency’s David Addison (Bruce Willis). We also trace Bim’s love for a Strong Nose to David Duchovny (Red Shoe Diaries) and ER’s Dr Luka Kovac (Goran Višnjić). Thirst is complex, y’all.

In our Plus segment, we take a look at some of the cliche ‘sexy time’ tropes in film and TV and why they work (or not): the wanton clearing of a desk (hello, Friends and also The Good Wife); the full-bodied slam against the wall/bookcase (Atonement, Always Be My Maybe, The Night Manager) and why we do NOT fool around with food. Join Slate Plus to find out why! Slate.com/thirstaidplus

There are very few aspects of sex that people across the Internet can agree on, but the opinion that riding *eggplant emoji* or “plas-dick” can be exhausting gets a universal head nod in agreement. So how can we maximize the experience for everyone involved? And how did pleasure expert Tyomi Morgan create a tight-knit community around that pursuit?

We’re going on hiatus! But before we go...we spend a little time with our favorite TV couples from our quarantine binge rewatches... you know, the ones that make us blush or sigh or yearn. So shoutout to Leslie and Ben from Parks & Rec, the original nerdy love match as well as Ruby and Stan from Good Girls, the couple that makes major sacrifices for their family. And from New Girl, a twofer: Nick & Jess, of course, but also Schmidt and Cece, whose love affair was perfectly breadcrumbed across seasons.

In this week’s Slate Plus, it’s the TRIUMPHANT return of dear friend of the show, Gena-mour Barrett (@smilegena). She’s filthy and hilarious and so we brought her back to talk a little more about the animated characters she thinks are hot: Thanos (WHY, GENA!), and Guy, the “dark-skinned bison” from BoJack Horseman. Plus, we give her a new toon-boo to lust after too.
