Michele (@michelebacicomedy) shares what she’s baking for Christmas and why it’s not the worst thing in the world to break some eggs. She’s also in the market for a new therapist.

This week’s guest is Geraldine Mae Cueva (@ohhmygeeg), a merchant turned marketer in the cannabis industry and the brains behind Art & Times of Chill (@artandtimesofchill). She tells us about testing positive for Covid before planning to fly home for the holidays, why she sought therapy for the first time, why she returned to it in 2020 and recognizing her instinct to be a people pleaser. She talks about how her consulting business helps cannabis companies understand the modern-day stoner, why she’s passionate about tackling the white patriarchy, and the vitality of knowing your values. She discusses how she’s adapting to the “new world” by replacing in-person events with virtual “smoke sessions” and how her focus has shifted to more social justice since the George Floyd protests.

Geraldine shares that she prioritizes tasks based on intuition and how she’s learned to listen to her gut. She tells us how she enjoys combining cannabis with practicing yoga. Michele admits that she’s not chill right now, but she used to be! They talk about the benefits of using CBD and how to check a product’s certificate of analysis. Geraldine talks about her relationship with money.

Therapy Roulette - EMDR Therapy and Burnt Quesadillas with Zach
play

10/29/20 • 55 min

Michele admits she needs to take better care of herself. She mentions that finding and sharing dark content memes may be helpful if you’re feeling, well, depressed and alone.

Today's guest is Zach, a wise zoomer who tells us about his experience with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. EMDR is most commonly sought out by people with PTSD, anxiety, and panic disorders. Zach shares his experience with group therapy and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as well.

Zach explains that burning a quesadilla should not make you feel like a failure. He tells us that he considers himself more of a millennial since he grew up with ‘90’s TV shows. They talk about setting and reaching therapy goals. Zach tells us his methods for determining whether a therapist is a good fit. They discuss how narcissists project their own insecurities, using avoidance as a coping mechanism, and finding affordable therapy. He also tells us he finds all the good memes on Instagram, but otherwise doesn’t spend much time on social media. They discuss the toxicity of social media and Zach theorizes that social media is fostering a dopamine addiction in us all. Zach says that if he became the president tomorrow, he would prioritize making sure that mental health is better addressed in schools.

Therapy Roulette - “Never Been Less Thirsty” with Maddie Silva
play

10/01/20 • 71 min

Michele admits she’s struggling to be creative during quarantine. She talks about writing journal pages, inspired by David Sedaris’ book, Theft by Finding: Diaries.

This week’s guest is Maddie Silva, an LA-based writer and self-proclaimed pasta water evangelist. Michele and Maddie discuss how hard it’s been to write a script or ANYTHING since the pandemic started. They agree it’s okay to surrender to erratic fits of productivity. They bond over a love for the paranormal show, the X-files.

Maddie divulges that her therapist is breaking up with her because she needs a break, goddammit! Maddie prefers a therapist who is kind and compassionate, whereas Michele prefers a cold-shouldered, bitchy approach.

Maddie confesses that her friendships have been strained lately with one married friend moving out of state and another friend getting pregnant. (all without consulting her first!) The ladies also discuss using sarcasm as a defense mechanism and commiserate over being forced to socialize at work. Maddie also confesses she almost missed meeting her boyfriend because she was too stubborn to be set up!

Michele gives some suggestions about how to talk to someone with differing political views. She shares a story about talking to a Trump supporter face to face.

This week’s guest is Trevor Waggoner, an improv and sketch comedian based in Los Angeles. He’s currently a part of a rotating cast on Manager's Special on Twitch. Trevor and Michele bond over the fact that they’ve both acted in TV court shows, but have no idea where to find the footage.

Trevor tells us about the political climate in Arizona and why he’s especially hopeful that the younger generation will flip the swing state for Biden. He talks about growing up in a predominantly Christian neighborhood, where people tend to vote Republican. He tells us why he’s not a fan of Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. Trevor and Michele also bond over having acid reflux and worrying whether the symptoms are related to COVID. They talk about not being stoked about Biden, but admitting we have to vote for him. He’ll probably be great anyway, who knows! They discuss the debates so far. Trevor tells us about a pilot he’s writing and what’s motivating him to write. He tells us what it was like to quarantine at home with his family in Arizona for six months. Michele asks Trevor whether any of his friendships have changed due to political disagreements. Trevor tells us a story about witnessing anti-maskers in public.

Michele is reading the book Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski and taking steps to recharge, relax, and plan a goddamn vacation.

Today’s guest is Rob Kalwarowsky, a certified leadership coach, mental health advocate, and podcaster based in Alberta, Canada. Rob shares his struggles with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and PTSD. He tells us how he opened up a pandora’s box of trauma that he’s currently processing and how he suffered for a while with depression before seeking help. He discusses his experience with EMDR, IFS (Internal Family Systems), how it’s common for men to be reluctant about seeking mental health treatment, and what it’s like to work with a trauma specialist. Rob also talks about winning a water polo championship in college and the sense of helplessness he felt after achieving such a large goal. They discuss how intelligent overachievers often have trouble asking for help when they most need it and other problems with perfectionist tendencies.
