A 2004 Christianity Today article dubbed Max Lucado as “America’s Pastor.” Max has been a pastor for over four decades and has written over 50 books that have sold millions and millions of copies worldwide. Naturally, I was a bit floored when Max reached out to me and wanted to know if he’d be willing to talk with me on my podcast. Of course I said yes! We talked about lots of things related to the current state of the church, how to cultivate longevity and vibrancy in ministry, doing ministry in a post-Christian culture, church and politics, and his most recent book Help Is Here: Finding Fresh Strength and Purpose in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Jeremy Stephens is one of the founding leaders of Tampa Underground, a gospel-centered ecclesiological network that’s home to over 100 microchurches (small missional communities) in the Tampa Bay area and 15 city-wide sister movements across the world. Currently, Jeremy is the director of the Underground's International Department. He previously has been a missionary with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and the Associate Director for the Underground in Tampa. Jeremy resides in the inner-city of Tampa with 4 kids and one wife.

In this conversation, Jeremy and I talk about all things church-related. What’s his model? How does it work? What’s his advice for the border Christian church in America? And many more things.

Writing a book on transgender idendities as a non-trans person is a bit bold, some might say audacious. This is why I decided to open myself up to my friend Seda, who is a transwoman. Seda read my book Embodied and appreciated a lot of things in it, but she does have some disagreements, which we discuss in this podcast. Seda has become a friend over the last year and has been an incredible dialogue partner.

My patreon supporters sent in tons of questions, some which I address on this podcast. Some questions include: What would a perfect church look like in my opinion? Did Judas go to hell. Is Chrisitan rock music sinful? When do I feel most intimate with God? Should Pastors copy other people’s sermons? Would the Canon of Scripture look different if women were involved in the putting it together? What’s my view of the intermediate state? Did the Pharisees and Jesus hold to eternal conscious torment? And several more.

My patreon supporters sent me a truckload of questions, some of which I addressed in my Patreon-only podcast and others that I address here.

Questions covered on this episode include:

Are complementarian churches missing out on women disciplers?

When should we give our kids a cell phone and let them call/text their friends?

Can Jesus followers be patriotic?

Are any forms of masculinity and femininity virtuous?

Is all sin equal or are some worse than others?

Does God bring whom he wants to church or are Christians responsible to created more diverse churches?

What 3 questions would I ask Jesus?

And many more questions.

Chris and I did a short impromptu Q & A at the “Exiles in Babylon” conference and we got a TON of questions! We weren’t able to respond to them all at the conference, so Chris joins me in the basement to work through some of the questions that y’all sent in.
