So, one of the things I am most grateful about is the fact that my mom and maternal grandparents taught me how to pray at a very young age. Because even though when I was in my late teen years, as well as in my twenties, I sometimes became a little lax with my prayer life, well, being taught to pray as a little girl is still what gave me a permanent foundation for the prayer life I have today. It is the reason I pray and talk to God about everything, and it is also the reason I believe that when all else fails, praying without ceasing is what will always help us in the end. In today’s episode, I describe my daily prayer life and share three recommendations that I hope will help you in yours.

The Woman God Created You to Be - Supporting and Celebrating Other Women

One of the most important things women can do is support other women. This, of course, is something that should happen automatically, but sadly, support from some women can sometimes be nonexistent. I mean, there is no doubt that none of us will ever be able to directly support every single woman alive, but what we can do is celebrate all women in our hearts—whether we know them personally or not. In today’s episode I ask you the following questions: Are you your sister’s keeper? Are you happy about the success of other women? Or does another woman’s success cause you to struggle with feelings of anxiety or jealousy? Is it hard for you to compliment or congratulate another woman? I also discuss the true essence of sisterhood, and I share three things you can do to help you become even more supportive than you already are.

When I was in my twenties, my mom told me that not everyone wishes you well. But while I certainly understood what she was saying, and I appreciated her wisdom, it wasn’t until years later, in my early thirties, that I began experiencing what she’d tried to prepare me for. I mean, it is true that I may have slightly experienced it a bit earlier, but when I began writing my first book and telling a few people about it, that’s when I discovered that not everyone was happy about my new endeavors. I remember being so excited about becoming a writer and about the idea of potentially being published, but after I began sharing my news with certain folks, I quickly realized how much of a mistake I was making by telling them at all. So how about you? Can you relate to any of this? In today’s episode, I talk about how I learned to accept the fact that not everyone can be happy for us, and I offer three things you can do to accept this truth as well...and still accomplish everything God has given you the desire and ability to do.

The Woman God Created You to Be - Do it afraid!

Do it afraid!

The Woman God Created You to Be

01/04/21 • 11 min

Being afraid is a feeling I know all too well because while in 1995, I did have the confidence to begin writing my first book, and I finished it by the end of that year, I was still rejected by every single literary agent I submitted my work to. I received one rejection letter after another, and soon, I became both disappointed and discouraged. Then when I took a chance on submitting my work directly to editors at publishing houses (even though I knew they didn’t prefer receiving unagented or unsolicited manuscripts), I was rejected by each of them as well. After that, I decided to give up because I feared that if I continued trying, I would receive even more rejection letters than I already had. Then, if that weren’t already enough, I became more fearful than ever when my husband suggested that I start my own business so I could publish the book myself. So in today’s episode, I talk about fear and how, not only will it cripple us, but it will also prevent us from doing all the amazing things God has given us to do. I share why we should simply just do it afraid!

There is no denying that 2020 has been one of the toughest and most trying years you and I have ever experienced. But what I also know is that God is still God, and that I will continue to trust Him and keep my faith strong through all of it. I’m doing this because as much as it may not seem like it right now...this too shall pass. Things will get better and when they do...we need to be ready. Which means it is now time, more than ever before, to ask yourself if you truly and wholeheartedly know your purpose. Because if you do, then it’s time for you to fully begin walking in it, and if you don’t...it’s time for you to make discovering it one of your top priorities in 2021. In today’s episode, I share how it was many years before I truly knew what my own purpose was, how I finally discovered it...and how you can, too.

As I sit remembering the reason for this holiday season and also thinking about how tough our current year has been, I am still so truly grateful to have yet one more opportunity to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Because no matter what...we all have a lot to be thankful for. We’ve also been given quite a bit of time this year to reflect, refocus, and recognize what’s truly important...and what’s not important at all. This is also one of the reasons why today, I want to ask you the following two questions: 1) Do you need to forgive someone? 2) If the person you need to forgive passed away today, would you be able to live with that? In this episode, I’ll be sharing about my own past struggles with forgiveness, along with three things you can do to begin forgiving others as soon as possible.

The whole idea of not judging others can sometimes be very hard to understand—especially when people continue saying and doing some truly awful things. But as women of God, what we still have to remember—what we still have to keep in mind—whether we want to or not, is this: We don’t always know that person’s heart or their entire story. We just don’t know their complete history. We also don’t necessarily know what they’ve been through in terms of childhood pain, or some other kind of pain or abuse that they may have endured once they became an adult. Or they might even be struggling with mental and emotional issues that haven’t been diagnosed or properly treated. Because while none of what I just mentioned justifies bad behavior—nor does it give anyone an automatic pass when it comes to treating others badly, there are times when we may need to think before being so quick to judge or criticize someone or cut them off completely. In today’s episode, I discuss The Golden Rule and how important it is to treat others the way we want to be treated.

So, here’s the thing...whether you’re trying to discover your purpose, start a business or start a women’s ministry of some kind—or maybe you simply just have a certain project you need to begin working on. Well, if this is true, then today I am encouraging you to incorporate what I call my 4-P Process. I am encouraging you to Pray, Plan, Practice—and then Proceed. Because no matter what you are preparing to do, these are the four steps you need to take to accomplish your goals. Or at least for me, these are certainly the steps I have taken over the years for many different things. I’ve done so because executing the 4 Ps is what keeps me focused and organized, which is very important because without structure, we can sometimes become frustrated and confused about what to do first or next even. In today’s episode, I share an example of how I’ve used this process and how you can use it as well.

It was many years ago when my mom began telling me that for everything bad, something good comes out of it, and even in the worst of times, I have never seen her proven wrong. This is also the reason I share this sentiment with anyone who might be troubled or hurting about anything, hoping they will stay encouraged and know that, at some point, things will in fact get better. Of course, I will say, though, that doing this is much easier said than done because when my mom became terminally ill and passed away, it was a good while before I could even consider the idea of thinking on the positive side about much of anything. I also couldn’t see where any possible good could come out of losing the woman who meant everything to me. I couldn’t understand why my brothers and I had to lose our dear mom when she was only fifty-seven years old, and needless to say, there were times when I was so hurt and I became so angry that, ultimately, I became angry with God for allowing any of it to happen. I was so heartbroken and devastated, and worse, there was a period of time when I just didn’t want to go on. In today’s episode, I share three things you can do when bad things happen to you or someone you care about.
