Adam grew up road tripping to Wyoming for family vacations, where he was introduced to rivers and fishing, which eventually led to picking up a fly rod. He also picked up a guitar and a pen, following his passion for music and songwriting in the band, Horseshoes and Handgrenades.
Adam also guides his home state for trout when he’s not on the road making music.

When he moved to Utah, he reconnected with fly fishing when he saw a bamboo fly rod hanging in a fly shop, and decided to build one.
In Part 2 of our discussion, Jory explains the process he's developed for building his beautiful bamboo fly rods, as well as several tips, techniques, and resources for anyone interested in creating this special part of fly fishing history for themselves.

He went on to become a longtime commercial fly tyer and signature tyer for Umpqua Feather Merchants. In this episode we Wadeoutthere with Aaron Smith from Salt Lake City, Utah. Aaron’s passion for fly fishing took hold after participating in a challenge to catch all four of Utah’s native species of cutthroat, called the Utah Cutthroat Slam.
Since then, he has committed to exploring different tactics and techniques in fly fishing by diving all in, one method at a time. His most recent obsession is learning to fly fish Utah's many lakes and reservoirs. Aaron’s desire to capture his fly fishing memories with friends over the years has grown into a love of photography and a more recent photograph on the cover of Fly Fusion Magazine.
