Which software is the best?
The Video Editing Podcast
09/14/22 • 39 min
Which software should you learn before you enter the world of professional video editing? That’s the question we’re going to be seeking the answer to in this episode of The Video Editing Podcast from Unsplice.
Each NLE (Non-Linear Video Editor) has its pros and cons, and so you’ll find different pockets of the industry prefer different software. In this episode you’ll learn what software is used where, the pros and cons of each, and which software you should invest your time (and money) learning.
If you’ve ever tried to use Premiere or any other NLE and had it crash in the middle of something important, you’ll know how frustrating it is. Sure, you may have lost maybe 10 mins work as you pick up from the last autosave, but you’ve also lost your flow. As you scroll though Instagram waiting for the software to reload, you’re flow may not come back that day. If you’re interested in learning the kind of professional asset management that large studios use to prevent Premiere and other NLEs from crashing, head to https://superpeer.com/unsplice/event/how-to-use-premiere-without-it-crashing
In just 2 hours you’ll learn how to convert every asset to a ‘working format’ for smooth and efficient editing – a life skill that will save you time and keep you in that super valuable flow-state. The live session happens on September 24th with a Q&A session afterwards.

What's it like to be an Assistant Editor?
The Video Editing Podcast
03/02/22 • 29 min
When you have no network, it’s difficult to find your first editing gig. One way to get your foot in the door, learn on the job and build a network whilst getting paid is to take an Assistant Editor role.
I’m very excited to welcome our very first guest onto The Video Editing Podcast. We’re speaking with Josiah Ward who is an Assistant Editor at Future Studios in London. He’s going to tell us what an Assistant Editor actually does. Future Publishing is so huge they reach 1 in 3 adults in the UK & US, so chances are you’ve come across their content. Josiah and I first met in 2021 when I was cutting a Snapchat Originals series called As I Am.
In this episode you’ll hear about how he got the job as an Assistant Editor as well as the level of knowledge he had when he started and how that has developed. We discuss university and whether Josiah thought it was worth it in order to become an AE.
You’ll learn about some of the challenges of working across the US and UK and how remote video editing has changed our industry in such a way that it’s never been a better time to be a video editor.
You can find Josiah on YouTube or check out his podcast The Alternative Football Commentary Podcast.
If you took anything away from this episode, I’d super appreciate if you subscribed and left a 5* review. This helps other video editors like yourself find and learn from the podcast.
Thank you for listening.
