The unjust murder of George Floyd is a shared collective trauma for the black community. His murder is highlighting countless of years of systemic oppression, racism, and police brutality.
In this episode I do my best to highlight how George Floyd's murder by the knee cap of a white on duty police officer is impacting our nation. There are two sides this episode. The black side, and the white side.
Race and identity intersect through all walks of life. Identity is how I see mental health. To stop end of pathology for the life experiences of black people, one must first understand the difference between anxiety, and managing how your identity intersects within you life and social connections.
Are you nervous because your identity could get you killed today?
It brings me joy to see people of color come in diagnosed with generalied anxiety, and leave being proud to be black and the "anxiety" symptoms related to being black, become a part of yourself. You learn how to not only be aware of your identity, but how to navigate difficult nd traumatic moments where your identity, and another person's interaction and perception of your identity, becomes the reason you could die.
George Floyd will forever be a beacon of hope for my mission to defeat the stigma of mental health. Grieving his loss with millions has brought me joy, being invalidated by people I love, haas brought me pain. Let me share with you all my personal and unorthodox perspective of why George Floyd is my brother, not by blood, but by breathe.
Disclaimer: This is a raw, very raw episode. I have been emotionally incapacitated since his loss and I do what I tell my clients. Be your true self. So don't mind the crying, lack of edits, and possible lack of structure. My grief at a this moment has no structure.

Who is Carole Baskin and why bring her to therapy? Carole Baskin is what I'd like to call the perfect trauma case study. And what a great way to introduce a heavy topic. She was a lead in the limited documentary series The Tiger King which airs on Netflix. In episode three of The Unorthodox Therapist I clinically break down Carole Baskin's childhood, multiple marriages, and a cult formally known as the Big Cat Rescue. I will cue you in on details not mentioned in Netflix's The Tiger King about Carole's life and lightly and comically explore how trauma and a lack of safety can potentially fester into burying your husband in a septic tank.

This episode I cover the coronavirus addressing how it impacts out mental health by focusing on privilege, grief and loss of your social life, and questioning whether this free time, or pandemic past time, and how to be aware of your control. If you are or have had some struggles during your quarantine I hope this episode can open your mind to how you can take over Covid-19. Or maybe background music while you work from home. Either way as reminder It's OK to not be OK. But it's also OK to push your imagination and dreams to unorthodox limits and wear pants one day a week.Disclaimer this is NOT actual therapy. If you are in need of professional help please feel free to reach out with how you can get connected with a therapist or other support in you area.

Simply put this session opens up the space to begin exploring Generalized Anxiety Disorder beyond the DSM 5. My therapy is grounded in the soil of identity and learning more about how our true selves intersect within society, work, home, and our communities.
This is not the last session on anxiety. I hope this episode opens your minds to more than a book of symptoms. I hope you allow yourself to enter and into a world of culture.
