The purpose of the jar in this case is to store up the Holy Sprit breathed-Godly inspired Word, which is the Bible. As followers of Christ, we know that Jesus said this in the book of Luke 11:28, "On the contrary, blessed and (happily favored by God) are those who hear the word of God and continually observe it."
