Season 1 - EP #23 - Greg Williams | Diesel | Hall of Fame | Carlton | Brownlow I Teammate | Father
Join Wayne Carey as he jumps into episode 23 of the show with Special Guest number 5, Greg "Diesel" Williams.
Widely regarded as one of the best users of the football, with a unique ability to handball with pinpoint accuracy and read the play like no other. Being knock-kneed as a child and requiring multiple surgeries as a youngster, Greg made playing AFL football look easy for someone who never possessed lighting pace. Recruited from local club Golden Square and originally to the mighty Geelong Cats by Tommy Hafey, Greg went on to play for 3 AFL/VFL clubs, Geelong, Sydney and the Navy Blues winning a Best and Fairest at 2 and a Brownlow Medal at 2.
Greg and Wayne actually share quite a few things in common, although Greg would say that he has Wayne covered in a couple of areas. Both have been named All-Australian Captain and Vice Captain, both have won multiple club Best and Fairest awards, AFLPA MVP awards. Greg won the Norm Smith medal in Carlton's 1995 Premiership kicking 5 goals. Greg is a member of the AFL team of the century along with Sydney and Carlton's team of the century. Greg had 2 All-Australian selections and captained Victoria in 1989.
Greg shares his ongoing battle from concussion, his passion for the game and awareness of the work we all need to do now to preserve it. He talks about his Mighty Blues, his current role as Director of Football and his predictions for 2023 and beyond.
Watch until the end to see the special gift he bought in for the King.
