The Trauma Therapist - Episode 609: The Focus is Each other with Lauren Duke
play

05/09/22 • 39 min

Get ready for this episode! Lauren Dollie Duke is a force within the yoga, trauma and healing community. She’s a writer, educator, entrepreneur, and community activist. She’s taught thousands of yoga students over the last 15 years, led dozens of international retreats, and continues to push the edge between yoga, mental health, and trauma.
She founded a one-of-a-kind community center and yoga studio in Encinitas, California. In a sea of corporate yoga, where most independent studios don't survive, she created a thriving community, teaching and hosting a variety of sold-out yoga classes, educational seminars, and writing workshops. She devotes her time to helping educate people on the anatomy of trauma and how those experiences are woven into the tapestry of our lives. She has studied with the world’s leading traumatologists: Bessel van der Kolk, Peter A. Levine, Gabor Mate, and Stephen Porges. Lauren's book, Sh!thouse: A Memoir, was published in January, 2022! You can purchase it through any major book retailer.

The Trauma Therapist - Episode 523: Marianne Hennigar. Insight Healing
play

05/24/21 • 27 min

Today it’s about what it means to be a healer in the true sense of the word. My guest, Marriane Hennigar was drawn to helping people heal from the time she was a young girl. Now, with some experience and education she’s created her own program to assist in the healing process.
Since childhood Marianne’s been fascinated by how people work.
She uses psychoeducation to connect the dots between the psychological and emotional experiences which expresses themselves in the body. Marianne’s currently engaged in masters level classes in psychology with the aim to finish her degree in the next year. Additionally, she’s seeking certification in Somatic Experiencing and Brainspotting, both body-based modalities which support the client harnessing their own internal wisdom through focus to discover healing.

One of my main inspirations for beginning this podcast was to support and inspire new therapists who were interested in learning about trauma. It's also the reason I started my membership community, Trauma Therapist | 2.0.
From time to time I invite Trauma Therapist | 2.0 members onto the podcast to share their story, journey, struggles, and inspiration. Today it's about celebrating one such member, Kelly Rae.
First though, I'd like to thank the sponsors who help me keep this podcast afloat!

Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Institute (SETI)
Trauma may be a fact of life, but it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Somatic Experiencing is a psychobiological method of addressing clients’ physical and emotional trauma conditions and helps to give voice to their experiences without a need for them to retell the story.
Kelly started studying for a Masters Degree of Counseling and Psychotherapy in 2008 after her 40th birthday. Following that , and then after leaving what she calls a tricky marriage, it seemed increasingly clear that maybe she was meant for a different path.
Hailing from Sydney, Kelly took her first counseling job at a remote Aboriginal community north of Alice Springs and stayed for three years. Upon returning she took a break and finished her degree.
In 2015 she began working for an Aboriginal organization called Link Up and accepted a position as their Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Childhood Sexual Abuse.
Currently, Kelly is working at Functional Family Therapy - Child Welfare, which she is Team Lead of four talented FFT-CW therapists.
