
287. Why Diets Don't Work

Many of us have tried diets over the years with varying levels of success. While dieting can help you to achieve short-term weight loss, it often fails to lead to long-term, sustainable changes. In this episode of The Thyroid Fixer, my guest, Nagina Abdullah and myself will explore why diets don’t work. We will break down in easy steps nutrition hints and look at the different factors that lead to sustainable change. Nagina will share some tips and tricks on how to get that stubborn fat to melt off just like it did for her.
Nagina will restate what I always say about protein...it is key for weight loss as it helps our body to build and maintain muscle. It is also essential for tissue growth, repair, and the production of new enzymes and hormones. Additionally, protein is necessary for creating satiety, which can help with controlling hunger and cravings. Protein is a major source for amino acids which helps to fuel metabolic activity, increase fat burning, preserve lean muscle mass and balances blood sugar levels. Now we know this fact, the people who focus on increasing their protein intake as part of their weight loss efforts tend to experience better results than those who don’t pay attention to their protein consumption. How many times am I saying "Are you getting enough protein in daily"?

286. Should I use Low Dose Naltrexone for Hashimoto’s
Why add in Low Dose Naltrexone? LDN - Naltrexone is used for opioid withdrawal or in certain cases, alcohol addiction. It will block the receptor sites so the addict will not get the high they are expecting from using.
But in low doses, like really low doses, Naltrexone is found to modulate the immune system and lower autoimmune antibodies. And this is true for any autoimmune condition.
Anytime I see a patient that is literally an autoimmune ball of fire, we want to incorporate LDN. This will help lower those antibodies in autoimmune cases. Of course, always weigh the pros and cons as everyone is different. Listen here in this episode as I go over all the pros and very few cons of using LDN with Hashimoto’s.

288. Heat Exposure to Boost Metabolism and Burn Fat
In a recent episode, I challenged you to add in some beneficial cold thermogenesis to your weekly routine. But in this episode, I will give you insight to the flip side...heat thermogenesis. Heat thermogenesis in the studies I site state that by incorporating some heat stress, it can help boost metabolism. And who doesn't want this right?? It does this by increasing the body's energy expenditure. When the body is exposed to heat, whether through exercise, environmental factors like a sauna, or hot yoga, the body works to maintain its core temperature by increasing its metabolic rate. This increased metabolic rate causes the body to burn more calories, even at rest. Heat thermogenesis has been shown to increase the production of brown adipose tissue, or "brown fat," which is known to burn calories and help regulate body weight. By incorporating heat thermogenesis into your routine, you can effectively boost your metabolism and improve your body's ability to burn calories and maintain a healthy weight.
