Sharon Callen continues her conversation about inferring, to help in the teaching of reading comprehension.
Remember, inferring is a strategy. It permits readers to merge their background knowledge with text clues to come to a conclusion about new ideas that aren’t directly stated in the text. Drawing conclusions helps readers gather more information and ideas and understand the writer’s point of view.
In this episode, Sharon talks about:
- Key actions to take when implementing inferring as a strategy
- Teacher prompts to activate thinking when modelling
- How to assess students' abilities to infer and draw conclusions
And much more!
