The Strong Women Podcast

The Strong Women Podcast

Colson Center

In our culture, if a woman is said to have strength it usually means she is competing with a man or acting like a man. What if there is strength in the way God made us, as women? There is and we recognize it when we see it. We are excited to introduce you to women who display true strength, not in spite of being women but because of it.

Be inspired by the story of Pandita Ramabai (1858-1922), a Christian from India who transformed lives by meeting the needs around her. Pandita was a scholar who ministered to thousands by forming schools and the Mukti Mission. Historian Glenn Sunshine returns to tell us about another Eastern woman who impacted history.

We chatted with Glenn at Wilberforce Weekend. Access to Wilberforce Weekend Online is out now at wilberforceweekend.org.

play

11/15/23 • 50 min

What is education for? How does the Christian worldview shape our approach to it? If you ask this week’s guest, she’ll tell you that it’s for the flourishing of children, parents, and communities. Lynn Swaner is the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). She joins us to talk about a Christian ethic of education and discipleship, the unique landscape of schools today, as well as the exciting innovations happening in Christian education across the country. We discuss what it looks like to approach education Christianly (whether you’re in a Christian school context or not) and to live out Jesus’ call toward love and discipleship as parents, students, and teachers—all for the advance of God’s kingdom and the flourishing of culture.

As Christians, we’re called to love God with all our minds, and be transformed by the renewal of our minds. Without a mind that’s shaped by God’s Word, we’ll struggle to champion the truth, beauty, and goodness of God’s Kingdom in this time and place. To address this problem, Michael Craven, Vice President of Equipping and Mobilization at the Colson Center has written a brand-new, free e-book called The Christian Mind: Its Necessity to Christian Relevance and Renewal. It’s a primer on developing a thoroughly Christian mind for the sake of the Kingdom. If you want a more robust faith that actually shapes how you live in the world today, or if you’re wondering why cultivating a Christian mind really matters, you should read this book. You can grab your free copy by going to colsoncenter.org/book.

The Strong Women podcast exists to display the beautifully diverse ways God invites and equips women to participate in His story, encouraging us to step out of shallow definitions of womanhood and into the freedom of strong womanhood in Christ. Strong Women is a listener-funded program from the Colson Center that is only available for free because it has already been paid for by hundreds of listeners like you. Georgette Forney is the director of Anglicans for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness campaign. At age 16, Georgette had an abortion. Even after becoming a Christian, she struggled to believe that God could forgive her. She joins us this week to share how God helped her bring her abortion into the light, receive His forgiveness, and walk free from guilt and shame. Although she describes herself as an unlikely activist, Georgette has obeyed God’s call to advocate for the preborn. By sharing her story, she helps women and men experience forgiveness, healing, and hope in Christ after abortion.
