The Story Church - The Pursuit of God (Lover - Pt 1)
play

05/31/20 • 34 min

When you think about the Bible, what words come to mind? Holy? Rules? Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth? How about romance? Stop laughing. We’re serious. Centuries before it became a holy book or a religious code, the Bible was a love story, and centuries later, its intense romance endures. The Bible tells the story of a God who passionately pursues us and desires a future with us. Even when we break His heart, He refuses to give up on us. When we didn’t deserve it, and before we ever loved Him back, God laid down His life for us. That’s how much He loves us. See? Romance! With this series, we’ll consider the questions: If God loves us this much, how should we love one another? How can our relationship with God transform our relationships with the people closest to us? Join us for Lover: The Romance of God, starting Sunday May 31 through the end of June, Sundays at 8:45, 9:45 and 11:05.

How did a handful of ordinary people become ten thousand committed followers of Jesus in the year following his public execution? How did his movement gain so much momentum, especially as ten of the eleven charter members were crucified, burned, or stoned to death within a few decades? How did ten thousand Christians become one million by the second century? And how did one million become 3.3 billion today? Written in the middle of the first century, The Acts of the Apostles tells the story of how, despite facing serious persecution and hardship, Christianity spread like wildfire across the Roman Empire and beyond. For 25 weeks at The Story Church (September 10 through Easter 2024), we will journey through Acts in pursuit of the truth behind history’s most consequential movement.

The Story Church - Jesus: Dead or Alive? - Isaiah 50-53 (Paradox - Pt 6)
play

04/07/25 • 36 min

Our lives are filled with apparent contradictions. We often say illogical things like, “Less is more,” and “The only constant is change.” Literally speaking, such statements can’t be true, but deep down, we know they are right. And so it is with God sometimes. In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah found God in life’s paradoxes. He saw God as a garden flourishing in the desert, as a slave who is more powerful than his masters, and as a healer who is mortally wounded. Through his prophecies, Isaiah revealed a deeper reality about God that cuts through our apparent contradictions and points directly to our crucified savior, Jesus Christ. At The Story, we’ll explore these deeper truths beginning Sunday, March 2, through Easter Sunday.

Did the universe spontaneously appear from nothing, for no reason at all? Or is there reason to believe in a Creator? Pastor Eric Huffman explores the question, "Why is there something rather than nothing?"
