In October 2019, Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Professor of indigenous education at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, gave the Sociological Review Annual Lecture in London. This marked twenty years since the publication of her book Decolonizing Methodologies. This pathbreaking volume presented a significant challenge to the ways in which imperialism was embedded in the production of knowledge through social science research.

For this podcast, Michaela Benson (Managing Editor, The Sociological Review) was joined by Sara Salem, editorial board member at The Sociological Review, and Assistant Professor in Sociology at the London School of Economics and Linda Tuhiwai Smith to revisit Decolonising Methodologies, reflecting on what has changed since the initial publication of the book and challenges ahead, given the continuing urgency of decolonising social science curricula and social theory.
