Tamsin speaks to financial protection specialist, Kathryn Knowles. They discuss the financial protection options, how and why to review your protection post divorce and how to financially protect you and your family.

I'm a founder of Cura Financial Services an insurance broker, and Advice for Advisers: training advisers in protection insurance.

I have worked in the insurance industry since 2010 and have had a real mixture of roles. I have been involved in compliance, administration, advising, training, marketing, website design and possibly more that I’m forgetting to mention.

I set up an insurance brokerage with my husband in 2012. To me, to be able to grow and develop a strong company, I felt that I must understand all roles inside and out. Since then Cura Financial Services has gone from strength to strength, leading us to win multiple national awards.

I am known and have been commissioned by insurers to share my approach to providing protection advice. Often referred to as ‘humanising’ the insurance world. I have been involved with outreach campaigns for Scottish Widows, British Friendly and The Exeter.

I have also been involved in consultations with the Chartered Insurance Institute, Association of British Insurers, British Insurers Brokers Association and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

In this episode, Tamsin speaks to Laughter Yoga practitioner and author of the Joyful Laughter Journal, Sara Kay. They discuss how laughter can help people to get through divorce and recover afterwards.
Sara Kay, 54, from Manchester, UK, delivers Laughter Yoga sessions, training, and is also a Happiness Facilitator, running workshops for businesses and communities across the UK..

After having depression for many years, then a divorce with teenage children in tow, and coming out as LGBT, eventually in 2016 Sara found out about laughing intentionally and this was a life-changing moment to de-stress and create positivity from within. In 2019 she was awarded the title Laughter Ambassador in recognition of her Laughter work.

Sara's passion for spreading the health benefits of Laughter Yoga shines through in her sessions, and she has significantly increased the promotion of this wonderful wellbeing exercise during the pandemic with the help and recognition of the College of Medicine.

What is Wellbeing Laughter? A unique exercise routine, intentional Laughter created through value and playful exercises interspersed with clapping and deep Yogic breathing.

How can I laugh if I don’t feel like it? With specially designed warm-up exercises, hearty laughter is initiated. There is no need to be happy to do the exercises.

Why you should come to this activity: Wellbeing Laughter is a simultaneous mind and body workout. The benefits include increased brain function (creativity, motivation, and production), better resilience to cope with life's challenges, great social connection, improved energy levels through a large healthy dose of feel-good endorphins, boosted immunity, decreased stress levels and pain relief, amongst many more benefits.

The first time is the hardest to do any new activity. Simply a small amount of willingness is all that's needed – you’ll feel happier and lighter after only a few minutes.

There really is no better exercise to help through these challenging times to find happiness once more.

Have you ever wondered what a barrister does in their working week when they’re not in a meeting with you? In this episode, Tamsin is joined by leading family barrister Rhys Taylor to find out more about what his work involves.
With his depth of knowledge in courtroom advocacy and client advising, Rhys joins us on the Smart Divorce Podcast to unravel the complexities of family law. His candid insights from the dual perspectives of a barrister and part-time judge illuminate the behind-the-scenes of legal strategy, from the preparation of pivotal written notes for FDR hearings to the subtle art of steering clients toward amicable resolutions.
This episode isn't just about the inner workings of the legal system; it's a masterclass in the human element of law. You'll hear firsthand how a barrister like Rhys balances the roles of advocate, advisor, and sometimes, peacemaker. The detailed anecdotes shared provide a window into the emotionally charged world of divorce cases, where barristers do much more than argue points of law—they foster understanding and cooperation in the face of discord. Our discussion with Rhys also sheds light on how the direct public access scheme empowers individuals by allowing them to seek advice straight from the experts.
We wrap up with practical wisdom you can apply should you ever face the challenges of divorce litigation. Whether it's the strategic importance of managing client expectations or the nuanced dance of compromise and persuasion, Rhys Taylor's expertise is a lighthouse for those navigating these difficult waters. Tune in to gain invaluable insights from a barrister who not only represents his clients but also shapes the legal landscape, ensuring that every voice in a family law dispute is heard and validated.

Unlock the secrets to empowering survivors of domestic abuse as we chat with our guest Sam Fisher, the inspiring CEO of Trafford Domestic Abuse Service (TDAS). Through her personal experiences, we shed light on how TDAS supports not only Trafford residents but also those connected through work or schooling, offering crucial services under the Domestic Abuse Act.

Samantha Fisher, CEO, Trafford Domestic Abuse Service

Samantha is currently the CEO of Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) and has dedicated her career to the voluntary sector since 2007. She holds a degree in Psychology and initially aimed to pursue a career in college teaching. A deep commitment to service-user involvement has been central to Sam’s approach, rooted in her time as a Client Inclusion Champion while serving as a Project Worker supporting homeless women facing multiple challenges. This role highlighted the importance of centring service-user voices, a principle that continues to shape her work today.

In 2010, Sam joined Team TDAS as a Refuge Support Worker and immediately knew she had found a professional home. Now leading the organisation, she feels privileged to work alongside a dedicated team, providing person-centred, empowering support to families seeking freedom from domestic abuse.
