The Simple Truth

The Simple Truth

The Station of The Cross

The Simple Truth, hosted by Jim Havens, airs each weekday from 4-5PM(EST) on The Station of the Cross Media Network. The focus of the show is authentically receiving, living, and transmitting the simple Truth of Jesus and His Catholic Church. We’re in challenging times, but we are made to rise up and meet the challenges before us with Christ. We’ll be proclaiming all that is good, true, and beautiful, applying it to real life, and we won’t shy away from the difficult topics, especially lifting up the truth in those areas where it is most unpopular, and therefore most needed. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “The disciple of Christ consents to ‘live in the truth,’ that is, in the simplicity of a life in conformity with the Lord's example, abiding in his truth. "If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth." Join us live on the radio, on YouTube, Facebook, or listen to the podcast!

3/6/25 - Never before in the life of our nation have more drugs – legal and illegal – been consumed than now, and in such an acute time as this, it is difficult to evaluate which mood-altering drugs carry moral legitimacy. In these pages, author John-Mark Miravalle explores, through a Catholic lens, the phenomenon of chemical mood alteration and reflects on our feelings of pleasure and suffering and how they relate to the rest of our humanity.

John-Mark L. Miravalle is professor of Systematic and Moral theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Maryland. He received his doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Regina Apostolorum in Rome. He is the author of three books, including Why God? Why Jesus? Why the Catholic Church? He has debated noted atheists on topics such as God’s existence, same-sex marriage, and theistic morality. He and his wife Jessica have five children.

4/4/25 - Has anyone else noticed contradictions in JD Vance's public stance on life and values? Our Vice President has publicly encouraged Americans to live by simple truths, yet his support for IVF and unwillingness to protect unborn babies implies a denial of the fundamental right to life from conception. We'll break down how and why Vance's rhetoric around "living by truth" doesn't quite seem to align with his stance on abortion and the beginning of life, raising the question of whether his advocacy for simplicity and consistency is truly grounded in principle.

1/23/25 - Dr. Monica Miller is a nationally known pro-life leader, having been involved in the pro-life movement since 1976. She is the founder of Citizens for a Pro-life Society and author of several articles published on theological subjects and life-issues. Her work has appeared in This Rock, The National Catholic Register, Homiletic and Pastoral Review, The New Oxford Review, Fidelity Magazine, and Crisis Magazine.

Since 1976, Monica Miller has made it her life's work to defend the unborn: she has counseled pregnant women outside abortion clinics and organized pro-life groups and sit-ins at many of those same clinics. She has blocked abortionists' cars, been arrested, and gone to jail. And she has pulled the bodies of thousands of unborn babies out of dumpsters and given them a proper burial. Abandoned: The Untold Stories of the Abortion Wars is the story of those children abandoned by abortion, and it is the story of their courageous defenders. It tells the profound, breathtaking, and often daring journey of one woman, but it is much more than that. It is a history of the Pro-Life movement since Roe vs. Wade, a suspenseful, true-life tale of life and death, an insightful look into the unique and terrible horror of abortion, and a plea for the protection of the most helpless and innocent members of the human family.

2/10/25 - Dr. Christine Bacon holds three degrees in communication. Her doctoral dissertation merged marital humor with her own experience and her desire to teach individuals and couples how to build and nurture what she calls Super marriages. She is the wife of a retired Navy officer and a former life-skills educator at the Navy's Fleet and Family Support Centers. Her expertise includes teaching couples and individuals to successfully manage conflict, anger and stress, and more than fourteen years' experience leading pre-marital seminars with Catholic Charities. Dr. Bacon also runs CMB Communication, Inc., which focuses on strengthening relationships (intimate, familial and professional) by teaching effective communication skills.

Her own marriage was so painful and troubled that Dr. Christine Bacon actually prayed for her husband to die. During a four-year separation and her husband's pursuit of reconciliation, she realized that reunification would mean changing everything: ineffective communication styles, bad habits, attitudes and levels of commitment. She vowed to herself that "this second time must be forever." Her personal trials, despair and fighting spirit fueled a new quest to discover the formula for extremely happy couples. Dr. Bacon interviewed nearly 100 Super Couples to discover whether extremely happy marriages were a matter of fate or formula. Did they get lucky, or was "super" something that could be learned? Her surprising findings inspired a turnaround in her now happy and fulfilling marriage and have led to the same for thousands of other couples. Readers who delve into The Super Couple will access this formula, glean fresh insights to the "six faulty assumptions" that often lead to marital failure, and embrace a practical and inspiring redefinition of love that will reinvigorate a tepid or troubled marriage and transform it to terrific.

1/6/25 - As baptized Christians, we are called to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. But that has become increasingly difficult in today's post-Christian culture, which has largely rejected God and Christian beliefs. This is the primary field where most of us are called to sow and harvest for the kingdom, and a culture antithetical to Christianity requires a different approach. Philosophy provides some common ground with the modern world as well as tools to think rationally about who we are and what we were made for.

Thinking Clearly is your introduction to philosophy in the Catholic tradition and a guide to having difficult conversations about faith, morality, the human person, and more, using natural human insights.

2/20/25 - In Analog Hunger in a Digital World, renowned psychologist Dr. Paul Vitz addresses the troubling fact that scientific progress is no longer making human beings happy. In fact, the reverse trend is taking hold: individuals are more distressed and struggle with overwhelming confusion regarding personal identity and the meaningfulness of life as technology makes daily life more ‘manageable.’ Dr. Vitz asserts there is a noteworthy connection between the sense of personal identity and flourishing, and the connection between well-being and technological progress has been largely severed because ‘progress’ in this sense encourages various ways ‘losing sight of oneself. This book is written for those who are enthralled by the digital realm and tech advancements, but also for those who are affected by contemporary crises in culture and identity.
