THE SHIPS LOG

THE SHIPS LOG

J.B. Niday

These are the sea stories that nobody has ever written down or will write down. You may not believe them all, but you will be entertained by them all. These stories are mostly from Seafarers so there is some salty language. Tuck the kids into their racks, make them sweep the deck, or send them down to the engine room to look for a bucket of steam. These stories are from old folks and young people alike. I am bored on watch and want to hear something new, tell me a sea story...

THE SHIPS LOG - Episode #24 Nate The Dirty Seaman
play

07/11/20 • 157 min

In this episode I sit down with Nate The Dirty Seaman, an old friend, with better quality audio than the first time. He tells the world about hunting alligators in North Carolina, Walking the streets of Madrid, and declares that the women in Spain are more beautiful than France. He gives us a history lesson on moonshine and actually makes NASCAR sound somewhat interesting. On a more serious note, we talk about the mental health of mariners at sea and what to do if you are stuck on a vessel and feeling depressed. Also, what is it like to have a shitty cook onboard a sea going vessel? Why does he want to win the lottery, buy Bubba burgers, and close down the company? Old classic cars. We talk 1967 Lincolns and 2001 Camaros. At the end, you will learn why this show does not have an outro.
If any mariner is depressed and needs somebody to talk to you can contact me at [email protected] There is always somebody who cares about you out there. You are not alone.

THE SHIPS LOG - Episode #23 Chef Machete
play

07/04/20 • 73 min

In this episode I sit down with a local celebrity, Chef Machete. He tells us about his claim to fame, Lean Sauce. He promises that there is no codeine in the recipe. He hangs out with rappers, has a gold grill, and has his own cooking show coming out! He also regales us with what it was like to cook for a boats crew at sea and shares his secret to keeping a crew happy with the menu. To make a long story short, this is a guy who started out in the maritime industry and is now chasing his dreams of making people happy with great food.

THE SHIPS LOG - Episode #22 Captain Price
play

06/27/20 • 98 min

In this episode Captain Price talks about Chernobyl, spending the night inside the exclusion zone, and hiking mountains. You know that abandoned, very creepy, and radiated city close to Chernobyl that is the writing material for our nightmares? She spent the night there! Also, how does a girl that girl that grew up in land locked Colorado grow up to be a tug boat Captain in Houston Texas? Why is Crossfit so damn hard? What is it like to climb a huge volcano in South America? We also talk about WISTA, high school maritime programs, and swimming in open water. In this interview you have two people from opposite ends of the spectrum. One who watches way too many shows on Netflix (me) and the other that chases her dreams, around the globe, on a regular basis.
