The Rule of Lou Podcast

My mother came for a visit and eagerly agreed to do an interview for the podcast. We talk about her life growing up in a rural part of El Salvador and her impression of the United States during the tumultuous period of the seventies at the young age of fifteen. We explore her life and talk about the things that motivated her and how she raised three children as a single-mother in 1980's Los Angeles. It's an inspiring story of a woman overcoming the challenges of immigration, inequality, and her own independence.

In this week's episode, I talk about what's in the news the week of September 21st, 2020. I address the passing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the state of affairs for nominating a new Justice, and we delve into the FinCEN money laundering scandal that rocked the finance industry Monday morning. These two headlines along with an update on Covid-19, the NBA Playoffs, and other stories are all in this week's episode. I also talk about some upcoming episodes that I'm excited to create.

This is an old recording from March of 2019. Alex and I were trying to figure out what the podcast would be about and we had just seen the documentary Free Solo. Free Solo is an award winning documentary by filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi and world renown photographer and mountaineer, Jimmy Chin that takes an intimate portrait of solo free climber Alex Honnold. In this episode of the ROL,I share my thoughts on race and racism in America today. I talk about what I think needs to be done to help us find a path to understanding and growth. I also talk about my life growing up in different parts of the country, my thoughts on diversity, and how living abroad has influenced my perception of what it means to be an American. In this episode, I share my personal struggles with depression over my lifetime. I also talk about a personal experience losing a dear friend who lost her battle with depression in 2017. Her passing was something that affected me greatly and I talk about how I ended up reaching out for help.
