I’ve had a thought that’s been bouncing around my head for several months.

It feels like every time we turn around a new societal label is being defined or a particular group is begging to be heard. I don’t say this in judgement or that it’s not justified. But are the efforts to be seen, to be heard, is it creating w paradigm of me over you? This struggle inevitably creates conflict. I can’t help but wonder if these labels only deepen the divide amongst us. What does this have to do with the iconic and timeless movie The Breakfast Club?

WOW! I can't believe that this is episode 200!!

In this episode I am join by: Laurie-ann Sheldrick (E1), Christine Bizier (E24), Michelle Kennedy (E103), Jonathan McLernon (E218), Melissa Mayer (E157), Dr. Margaret Evanow (E170), Angelika Matev (E47 &166), Jeannie Smith (E147) and Jamie Walker (former co-host and E171).

We share personal stories of hitting rock bottom, vulnerability, and the willingness to share, to be seen and to connect at a very human level.

Jeff (my husband), Liam and Ethan (our adult sons), thank you for always being there and for your unwavering support.

The Roller Coaster of Midlife - How to Energy Work Can Bring Healing in Midlife with Laurin Wittig
play

02/07/23 • 0 min

As I progress into my midlife years, I’ve come to its more than a list of symptoms to be cured or endured, it’s a transformation. There is beautiful wisdom honed by midlife women, this wisdom can bring clarity, joy and purpose. Getting to that point of understanding can be a journey in itself, a journey that I’ve been navigating for a couple of years now.

It hasn’t been easy because our modern way of living has created a divide between our physical and spiritual selves. This is our opportunity to open the conversation and bring midlife women into this circle of wisdom so that together we can create a clearer path for ourselves and for those yet to enter their midlife years.

In this episode, I'm chatting with Laurin Wittig, an intuitive healer and mentor, the founder of the Heartlight Wise Women Circles, and an award-winning novelist.

The Roller Coaster of Midlife - E277 - Managing the Chaos with Julianne Bosch
play

11/02/22 • 36 min

Julianne is a Life Strategy Coach, Author and Mother of three children who has moved 13 times on four continents and survived. Her kids are now Educated, Employed and Elsewhere!

She wrote How A Mother Took Her First Step On The Moon-A Mother’s Keepsake Journal of Advice to My Children as a 50th birthday quest. Mothers leave a mark and she chose to give a gift to her children instead of receiving gifts by writing a collection of uplifting true stories and an empowering workbook for parents.

This episode took a different turn because life is full of chaotic moments, and we can either let them bring us down or throw our heads back and laugh. Leading up to this recording, Julianne had been trying to find her feet again after hurricane Ian. A few weeks before, I had been hit by the less intense hurricane, Fiona. The theme of chaos continued with technical problems getting started that day, which also continued throughout the week for me, and then an inexplicable power outage that lasted for 24 hours.

Julianne and I share our perspective on life, managing the chaos and understanding that sometimes you just have to laugh at the absurdity of it all!

The Roller Coaster of Midlife - E247 - How to manage stress with Phil Barth

E247 - How to manage stress with Phil Barth

The Roller Coaster of Midlife

play

04/19/22 • 36 min

I feel that over the past few decades, stress seems to be an accolade, a right of passage to success and a measure of self-worth. Today's guest, Phil Barth, had a bit of a wake-up call when he experienced a heart attack and his doctor attributed it to stress. Not that I want to start a debate on who has more stress, us moms or our husbands/partners, but studies have shown that women are more prone to suffer from extreme stress. The American Psychological Association reports a gender gap year after year showing that women consistently report higher stress levels.

Let’s face it, from the time our kids were born, the demands on our time have been relentless. Even now as our kids are older, those demands are still there. Add on work/career stress and then maybe caring for aging parents or grandkids, the stress is still there.

The good news is that there are things that we can do to bring back focus on ourselves. In this episode we chat about:

  • Stress management
  • The importance of starting your day off right
  • And why we should be more like dogs

It's also important to keep in mind, that while we have to manage our own stress, it's important to see signs of prolonged stress in our husbands/partners. Women and men handle things very differently and exhibit signs of stress just as differently.

As parents of adult children we've had to navigate these murky waters of balancing our own mental health and the needs of our kids.
