The Rhythm of Us - 59: Kristin Hill | Go & Tell No One
play

07/01/19 • 47 min

Well, guys, we saved one of the very best for last, we cannot wait to introduce you to our new friend, Kristin Hill. Kristin is an author, speaker, and co leader of With You Ministries with her husband Eric. We have been counting down the days to this one. . . This conversation resonated with us in so many ways and we can't imagine a better way to close out the season as we break for summer than this message of “Go and Tell No One.” In our over sharing, social media obsessed culture it’s easy to buy into the idea that every amazing experience we have must be shared publicly. But are some moments too sacred to share? Kristin reminds us of Jesus’ words to “ go and tell no one,’ and that our value is found in Him, not in how applauded we are by others. We all long to be seen, known, celebrated, and affirmed, but as Kristin reminds us today, the only true fulfillment of those longings is found in the secret and sacred time with God. We talk with Kristin about the upside down way of Jesus that says the most holy moments in life are often those no one else will ever see. Be prepared for your toes to be stepped on in the most wonderful ways as you lean in to Kristin’s wonderful wisdom and sweet reminders of truth. Listen in. The Rhythm of Us - 133: Mark and Jan Foreman | Never Say No
play

04/04/24 • 41 min

This week we’re starting a brand new series leading up to the launch of our new book, The Rhythm of Home, releasing June 4!

One of the ways God has faithfully led us over the years has been through bringing many older, wiser couples around us, who are enough ahead of us on the journey to offer helpful wisdom for the season we are in. We have come to value learning from them as much as humanly possible. So many of the rhythms that have carried us as a couple and as a family over the years, God has taught us through these amazing couples he placed on our path! So we thought it might be helpful to share some of the most valuable conversations we’ve had with some of the wisest couples we know. Some new, some old that have been incredibly valuable to us along the way!

This week we’re featuring a conversation we had with our good friends and mentors, Mark and Jan Foreman. Mark and Jan are the parents of Jon and Tim Foreman from the band Switchfoot, pastors at North Coast Calvary Chapel, and also just happen to be the authors of one of our very favorite parenting books, Never Say No!

As you listen to Mark and Jan share, you will quickly understand why their book remains at the top of our list! We chat with Mark and Jan about how to really enjoy our kids, the importance of saying yes to the invitations from our kids to join them in adventure, and also becoming people who lead the way in our own lives by saying yes to the adventures God is calling us to take! Their wisdom and advice have truly been transformative to us both in our parenting and in our lives. We know you will be blessed and impacted as well! Enjoy our conversation with Mark and Jan Foreman.

Pull up a chair and join us, this is a great one! Listen in.

The Rhythm of Us - 65: John Mark Comer | Slow Down
play

10/22/19 • 42 min

On today's episode, we're chatting with best selling author and Teaching Pastor at Bridgetown Church in Portand, OR, Pastor John Mark Comer. So, if you’ve listened to the podcast for a while, you’ve heard us share from time to time how God’s had us on this journey over the last few years of moving from just a "Church on Sunday, smallgroup on Monday, daily quiet time" lifestyle to really learning and centering our lives around the ways of Jesus (the spiritual disciplines) with the goal of course to become more like Him. And it's been wonderful to hear from so many of you who have been on a similar journey as well! It’s crazy to say that I’ve been a Christian for most of my 38 years of life and am just now learning about incredible things like the Prayer of Examen, how to practice Sabbath, and the one that’s probably changed me the most personally, the practice of slowing down, or as Dallas Willard puts it, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. John Mark has just released his 4th book with this exact title, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, and we could not be more excited to chat with him about it today! John Mark shares his journey of going from “successful” megachurch pastor, to hitting a wall of burnout and hurry sickness, to coming out on the other side, still loving and serving Jesus but now thankfully from a much healthier place emotionally and spiritually. We talk with John Mark about what it looks like to move from just a "church on Sunday" lifestyle to truly centering our lives around the rhythms of Jesus in order to become more like Him. John Mark unpacks the danger of living a hurried life, just how much it actually steals from us, and practical steps to move toward a slower more soulful way of living. Take a deep breath. Let your heart slow down. Listen in. On today’s episode we invited one of our very favorite entrepreneurial couples couples, Steve and Sarah Dubbeldam to join us for a conversation about believing in each other's dreams, and bringing those dreams to life. Steve is the founder of Wilderness Collective, offering trip-of-a-lifetime adventure experiences with the intention of inspiring character development through exploration.(yes please!) Sarah is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Darling Magazine, a quarterly publication that seeks to broaden the ideals of beauty in media by using all sizes of models and becoming the first magazine to not retouch women's bodies or skin in photos. Both Darling and Wilderness encourage men and women to discover their true identity and worth. We chat with Steve and Sarah about how they learned to work together, take each other's dreams seriously, and begin to bring those dreams to life. They share the vital rhythms they practice in their life and marriage while running two successful start ups that have kept them connected, balanced, and on the same team. We were blown away by these two, they are wise beyond their years, and the incredible wisdom they share will inspire you to bring each other's dreams to life. Listen in.
