#180: You Are A Product Of Your Past, Not A Prisoner Of It

111: Why We Are All Trapped In A Social Media Echo-Chamber
The Reality Check Podcast
11/05/19 • -1 min
Topic: Social media uses algorithms designed to promote maximum engagement.
It does this by showing posts to people who will engage (positively or negatively) - typically this is the same people over and over again.
This creates an echo-chamber that distorts your reality - if left unchecked it can make you feel like the whole world is split (and viciously attacking each other) all around the issues closest to you.
This will corrupt your thinking and is simply untrue.
In this episode I break down how this happens and the impact it will have on your mental state, as well as how best to manage it.

73: Mental Illness/Addiction Is NOT An Excuse To Treat People Badly
The Reality Check Podcast
02/19/19 • -1 min
If someones personality changes when inebriated, and they are always inebriated, than that is who they really are.
It doesn’t matter if they are ‘nice’ when sober, if they are rarely sober.
A violent drunk is an abuser that sometimes sobers up. A catatonic addict is an emotionally neglectful parent that some times sobers up.
I have learnt to view people based on how they are treating me, not based on how they are when sober or mentally healthy - this has enabled me to see (and end) toxic relationships before I am was further hurt by them and their abusiveness.

#193 Ahhhhhhh Christmas!
The Reality Check Podcast
12/02/21 • 25 min
It’s that time of year again, when festive joy is replaced by obligation and overwhelm.
In this episode, I share how December is something for me (and many of you) to endure. Survival is put at a premium and strategies to maintain some semblance of normality are introduced.
I also have a meta discussion as to the point of this podcast, coming to the conclusion that I use it as another form of writing therapy - offering up a model for you to potentially replicate for your own healing (it never has to be shared of course).

A large percentage of my life was lived in fear. First for my physical safety, then for my emotional stability and finally for peoples perception of me. Fear and anxiety has held me back for far to long, and has caused me to miss out on many opportunities.
In this episode I break down how I am systematically addressing fear and anxiety in my life and how you can follow my lead, as well as discuss the importance of acquiring positive role models in my life.

69: Take Action And Correct Along The Way
The Reality Check Podcast
01/24/19 • 10 min
It is far better to get a project 80% completed and released to the public than it is to try and get it to 100%.
The more I do this podcast, write books, vlog and blog, the more I realise that perfection is a trap. It is an impossible goal that will only cause you to procrastinate.
The better approach is to create a minimum viable product, and adjust where necessary. This approach will have you moving forward exponentially as you will see what is working and what isn’t far quicker.
