The Political Pour Up

In the wake of all the emotions flowing from the aftermath of the election results, Sue, Jas, and Jen begrudgingly gather to discuss what happened, and how to move forward from here. We're tired! And we know many of you are too. But we'll get through this. Because as our MVP says "When we fight, we win! Sometimes the fight takes a while, but that doesn't mean we won't win!"
Shout out to all our family, friends, and listeners for all your support and love!

Hello! Do You Know?! There's An Election Coming Up!
The Political Pour Up
11/04/24 • 115 min
It’s Election Day Eve, and the Pour Up Pundits are feeling all the feels! Cautious optimism. Anxious hysteria. Apocalyptic peril. It’s really a mixed bag of emotions over here. There was no shortage of news on this last week of the election, and Sue, Jas, and Jen try to recap the highlights. From more of the incoherent, racist, violent rants from one candidate, to more and more of your favorite superstar celebs endorsing the other. Can't forget about the 1939 style Nazi rally in NYC that would have been classified an “October surprise” if anyone was actually surprised it happened. And shoutout to BET for the phenomenal Black Men’s Summit!
Also, did you know there is more than just the Harris/Trump challenge on the ballot? Learn more about the state and federal races that will also have a profound impact on all the issues you care about.

Project 2025: It's Giving Racism. It's Giving Fascism.
The Political Pour Up
10/26/24 • 105 min
On this episode Sue, Jas, and Jen get into Project 2025, the 900-page monstrosity spawned by the Heritage Foundation, packed with authoritarian advice, and nothing nice for those of us who don’t happen to be straight, Christian, white, male, billionaire. The only thing more terrifying than the actual proposals in Project 2025 are the creepy old white guys behind it who have been plotting to “make America great (read: white) again” since the 1970s. Trust us y'all, this aint what you want!

Opportunity Economy: A Lil Everything for Everybody
The Political Pour Up
10/17/24 • 71 min
Whew Chile! This economy is certainly economying. It just seems like whether it’s the cost of housing, groceries, or a $5 foot long, the money is funny but these bills are forreal!
But at the end of the day, the day gone end. And we’ll all still exist under the confines of capitalism. But wouldn’t it just be nice if the richest among us paid their fair share of taxes. I mean, a girl can dream.
On this episode, Sue, Jas, and Jen discuss the economic policies put forth by both presidential candidates (one of whom filed for bankruptcy six times) and charges listeners to make their own determination about which pick is best for their bottom line. But that is after we debrief Hurricane Milton misinformation, the Maryland Senate race, and a passionate plea for Black men to recognize that Black women are not the enemy. Because―in the immortal words of the late, great Frankie Beverly―We Are One.... And that’s the way it is.

Reproductive Freedom is On the Ballot!
The Political Pour Up
10/10/24 • 78 min
On this episode, Sue, Jas, and Jen recap the “awwws” and “aarghs” on the gram this week. From Democrats controlling the weather, to the hard lessons in finding out that result from f*cking around with election interference, and a heartfelt plea to leave misogyny at home when heading to the voting booth.
They dive into the headlines that dominated the news cycle, including Hurricane Helene disinformation, more receipts from Jack Smith detailing the desperation of the former president to steal the 2020 election, and damning non-answers during the one and only vice presidential debate.
And they explore the possibilities this election could bring for reproductive freedom across the country, while reflecting on the devastating realities of a post-Roe America and how we got to this point... Spoiler alert, it’s racism...
