On this episode I am sitting down with Evan Lindsay to talk about becoming an athlete, parenting, and post pro athlete career. We discuss the best coaches and what made them so great, his best season and why, adapting, and more.
Born and raised in Canada. Evan was always an athlete first growing up.
In 1996 Evan was scouted by several MLB teams and attended multiple draft combines. Evan opted to play hockey though. In 1997 Evan was selected in the NHL draft by Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens 1999. Evan went onto to play professional for 7-years in North America and Europe. In 2001 Evan dressed for 1-game in the NHL.
After his hockey career, he was a full-time firefighter for 5-years. During this time He opened and grew a fitness business. It consistently produced revenues 55k+/mo, ~300 clients with a solid team of full and part-time employees.
After moving to Cayman island for personal reasons, the gym ran with Evan and his family in Cayman for 1-year. With a solid foundation, team and systems it continued to grow by 19%+ that year. In 2015, Evan successfully exited and sold the business.
Since then he has amassed more than 8000-hours coaching and consulting in the fitness business niche. Evan has been able to work with many successful companies, including Inc. 5000 businesses.
Evan created internationally accredited courses, run teams of business coaches & created a proprietary system that analyzes fit biz operations and finances to produce the right actions and results.
In addition, this year Evan took over ownership of a gym in North Carolina and recently partnered on another in South Carolina.

Welcome back everyone! In this episode I am joined by Carla Pentimone, Founder of Women's College Hockey Recruiting. Learn about her 6 pillars to getting recruited, the growth of women's hockey, what do scouts look for in a player, parents role, and so much more.
Carla began playing hockey in the Chicagoland for AAA teams including Team Illinois, the Chicago Mission and the Chicago Young Americans, while double-rostering as captain of the Loyola Academy Girls Varsity Team. Her Junior and Senior Year of High School, she was a member of USA Hockey’s U18 National Development Program at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. Carla went on to play NCAA Division I college ice hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the Badgers. While attending UW, she coached Wheelchair Hockey and received the Badger Community Service Award. Carla also is a two-time National Champion – winning in 2009 and 2011 with the Wisconsin Badgers under former Olympic gold medalist Mark Johnson and with two-time Olympic gold medalists Meghan Duggan (captain), Hillary Knight, Alex Rigsby, and Brianna Decker. In her senior year, she earned the Senior Badger Award for the Most Inspiring Player.
After her time at Wisconsin, Carla went on to get her master’s degree in business communication at Northwestern University, all the while coaching at organizations such as the Chicago Young Americans AAA and New Trier Girls Varsity. Her Chicago Young American’s team went to USA Hockey Nationals. Carla also helped guide the New Trier Girls Varsity Trevians to the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois State Championship in 2014 and they won a state high school championship at the United Center. In 2015, she completed the Madison Ironman. After grad school, Carla worked with a corporate recruiting agency as the North American Ice Hockey Recruiting coach.
Carla’s philanthropic endeavors include coaching for the Chicago Blackhawks Blind Hockey team. She is also a chair for a non-profit organization ICE- Inner City Education, where she mentors underprivileged children. Additionally, Carla is a Girls Committee Chair for USA Hockey and also gives presentations for USA Hockey to new aspiring coaches as a Coaching Education Program Instructor. Her favorite part about working for JDM is being able to assist student-athletes from all over the world reach their full potential. She wants to help student-athletes achieve their college hockey goals and to realize that success is a journey and not a destination along the way.
Carla is also employed by American International Sports Travel. She recruited three groups of elite female hockey players for international ice hockey tournaments and tours. The groups, representing the United States in their respective tournaments, went to the United World Game in Klagenfurt, Austria, and made stops in Germany and in Italy. In addition, in April 2019, she took an elite U16 group to the Lions Cup, in Helsinki Finland, making stops in Sweden and Estonia. The team was also able to witness an exciting overtime World Championship win, where many of their Olympic Female Hockey player idols, who were former teammates of Carla, greeted these hopefuls with smiles, autographs and photo opportunities.

An estimated 1.7 M Americans suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury, about 75% are mild injuries or concussions. In this talk Mark, an author and a podcast host, shares his experience and research on brain trauma. Mark shares details on how to spot a brian injury, how people can recover from trauma, how to deal with other peoples reactions, what to expect, and the available resources. While this is not a topic readily discussed it is extremely important for all athletes.
Per Neurology.org, a study found an overall CTE prevalence of 48.6% in former elite level football and hockey players. CTE in football players was 45.8 and 54.5% in hockey players, respectively. (CTE = Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy)

In the 2003 NFL Draft, Tolver was selected in the 5th round as the 169th pick by the Miami Dolphins. On October 19, 2005, Tolver was the newest addition to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and on January 3, 2006, the Cowboys signed him to the team. After spending four years in the NFL, he landed in the Arena Football League signing a contract with the Los Angeles Avengers on February 14, 2008.

In this episode I am joined by Vitaly Rivkin, a long time referee, as we discuss the referee crisis in the youth ice hockey sport community. Vitaly Played hockey’s since he was a kid back in Russia. After immigration to the United States he became a referee. Vitaly reffed at different levels of youth and adult hockey in NY and NJ for over 15 years.
The shortage in referees has grown throughout the nation and continues to grow in youth sports. Vitaly and I discuss the current issues facing the referees and coaches in youth sports, what we see as a root cause of the problem and the potential solution, and help us bring awareness so we can create partnerships and collectively grow the game.
