The Peacemaker’s Podcast EP004 Shownotes
Recorded on April 9, 2020, one month into the COVID-19 quarantine for Lindsey’s family. Check out the link below to see her video giving an update on her family and the podcast since the quarantine started. In today’s episode, Lindsey talks about type nine’s tendency to “fall asleep to themselves”. The Wisdom of the Enneagram says we type nines are “more devoted to any other number to the quest for internal and external peace” (Riso and Hudson).
Have you been noticing yourself pulling away from others during this quarantine time? What about in general during other times of stress? When nines encounter stress we can go inward and get quiet, pull away from others, and require more alone time than normal. We may notice ourselves experiencing more feelings of anger or anxiety. As a type nine, we have developed many patterns over our life as a way of protecting ourselves from stress or harm, so it would be perfectly normal if our “nine patterns” are rearing their heads during this COVID 19 crisis.
The type nine is often referred to as being slothlike - and you may not relate to this because you feel very active outwardly. But you may be falling asleep inwardly to your desires and feelings.
Lindsey shared a story about how she used to stare out the window in the car when she was younger and retreat into her inner world (5:15). As a nine, because we can be out of touch with ourselves, we may not have a very strong opinion about what we want. It may take some digging on our parts to figure out our opinions.
One of the members of the The Peacemaker's Community FB Group, “Jonathan” shares about himself and his way of processing the world as a nine. (7:45) Jonathan talks about the Enneagram and how it has been a revelation for him to realize how he’s fallen asleep to himself and his needs. He talks about being the youngest child in his family and that he often didn’t want to do or say the wrong thing. He started playing the role of the “good child” from a young age. He said that even now as an adult, he easily falls into the role of keeping peace with others and he “edits” himself in conversations with others (unknowingly) as a means to keep his opinions to himself and maintain a connection with others. (10:40)
The Enneagram speaks to our motivations, so it doesn’t matter as much what your interests are or your life experiences are or if you are an extrovert or introvert. People from all walks of life and backgrounds can come to be “peacemakers” and Enneagram research tells us that this happens as a result of both our genetics and environment (nature and nurture).
The closing challenge for the listener:
- Give yourself time! This process of knowing ourselves, learning more about our Enneagram numbers and accessing our emotions/feelings and opinions is a journey! Give yourself a lot of grace in this process and recognize that it’s going to be a lifelong journey. The goal isn’t to undo all of our patterns, but to recognize them and put yourself in a position to choose new directions and reactions in our lives.
- If you love an Enneagram Type 9, ask them questions, give them time to respond, and ask follow-up questions! We don’t always know right away what we want or need, so it might take some time!

The Peacemaker's Podcast

Today, we’re going to do a brief overview of the Enneagram and how that relates to us as Type 9’s.
So what is the Enneagram anyway? Let me tell you, it’s much more than just a personality test! Even though it’s a “trendy” thing on social media right now, it’s been around for thousands of years. We’re going to dig into what the Enneagram reveals about our true essence and how that relates to our past, present, and future.
I’m going to give you a bird’s eye view of a type 9. And if you are new to the Enneagram and want an overview of the numbers, check out the Enneagram Type Descriptions download I put together for you, below.
We’ll also get to hear from a type 9 friend of mine (Helen) I met through our FB Peacemaker's Community. Helen has her own business as a Virtual Assistant (check her out on the web) where she helps female entrepreneurs handle various aspects of their businesses. Helen and I have a vulnerable discussion about her childhood as a Type 9 and how she has grown to understand how to best show up in the world.

Welcome back for Episode 6, this is Lindsey Haeger the host of the Peacemaker’s Podcast. Today’s episode is part 2 of my interview with Joel Hubbard. If you haven’t yet listened to part 1 in episode 5, press stop and go back to catch that one first. Joel is the co-host of The Art of Growth podcast and over a month ago now I spoke with him about a Type Nine Panels that he hosted from Season 2 of the Art of Growth. I received so much value from that episode and wanted to go deeper into it with him. I’m excited to share the second half of our talk with you!
In Part 2 we discuss:
- The nine has a tendency to “edit the nine self”. How can we work to edit ourselves less?
- Joel talks about slowing down and focusing on breathing. This gives us a chance to think.
- Become aware of our moments more so we can get back in touch with ourselves.
- Tuning into our body is really important for the type nine (body type).
- The tension or tightness in our body can be an indication of something.
- Joel talks about breathing into the tensions in our bodies.
- There is a beauty to the gift of the type nine.
- The goal is for the nine to be fully the nine. The nine doesn't become a 3. The low side prevents us from being fully the nine.
- Peacemakers - you are one that creates harmony, and comfort.
- What if the nine could be more intentional in the ways they seek and create peace.
- Lead the way through the way you were made.

Welcome back for Episode 5!
If you’re listening to this in real time, we are still in the middle or possibly the end of the COVID 19 pandemic and I am soooo excited to share with you an interview I recorded over a month ago now with Joel Hubbard from the Art of Growth podcast.
Joel is the co-creator of The Art of Growth podcast, a certified Enneagram coach and a pastor near Boston, Massachusetts. Over the past several months I became enthralled with one of the Art of Growth Episodes from Season 2 where Joel hosted an Enneagram 9 panel. That specific episode alone has spurred on multiple conversations between myself and other Enneagram nines and I just couldn’t keep myself from reaching out to Joel to go deeper into some of the Peacemaker topics he and the panel discussed.
In Part 1 of this interview, we discuss:
- How does a 9 show up in a world that is so busy and noisy? How do we have our voices heard?
- Joel says that when nines are in the busy world, it’s sometimes easier for us to merge with what the world is doing.
- Joel talks about a “pulling back” that nines can do in order to assess what’s happening and determine a different path to take.
- The world needs the nine to show up. It is critical and rewarding for the 9 when they can come to terms with this truth.
- The goal is to embrace the fullness of the nine, bring yourself back to yourself, and back into the world.
- What are the similarities amongst nines that are experiencing growth?
- Joel discusses the 9 being the anchor point of the body triad.
- The lie of the type is that if I assert myself, then things are going to be bad and disrupted. When you call it out on its lie you can start to find peace.
- I discuss my process of growing as a nine, pushing through the fear.
- When nines start to show up, they can start to see that there is more freedom and that ultimately, there is less conflict.
- Growth is possible. It takes intentional steps.

3. Interview with Rachel Pritz (9w8), Certified Enneagram Guide and Life Coach
The Peacemaker's Podcast
03/12/20 • 22 min
In today’s special interview episode, I’m talking with Rachel Pritz.
Rachel is a life coach who specializes in the Enneagram...so of course, we had to chat! She shares her journey to discovering her true type, connecting all the dots in her own life, and how she implements what she’s learned with her coaching clients. It is now the starting point in her coaching process, and she’s seen fantastic results as her clients grow by learning more about themselves.
We discuss perspective and the different definitions of growth. Moving forward and prioritizing the next right step can be hard for us as type 9’s. But we can realign our mindset by understanding our core fears and core desires! Rachel shares an actionable Priorities Worksheet (linked below) that can help us get honest with ourselves and discover what truly serves us and makes us the best version of ourselves. She also shares the value of researching all the types and how it affects our interactions with others.
I truly enjoyed my discussion with Rachel, and I know you will too!

1. The Peacemaker's Podcast: Trailer
The Peacemaker's Podcast
03/12/20 • 10 min
The Peacemaker's Podcast is all about showing up for the Enneagram Type 9. That's significant because many type nines have spent their lives denying their desires or being completely out of touch with what they want.
Showing up might look like acknowledging that your presence in the room matters or speaking out against something that goes against your values. It might mean actually learning what your values and opinions are for the first time in your life. Showing up means we are coming back to our core, our true essence as described in The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Russ Hudson and Don Richard Riso.
Utilizing the Enneagram (a personality typing system), we are going to cover the gamut of topics surrounding the Peacemaker Type Nine. We're going to dive into what it looks like to live in a "healthy" space as a nine. We'll also tackle the shadow sides of our number and learn together how to accept those things we can't change (and don't need to), and ways we can face and move beyond some of the patterns we've picked up along the way that are no longer serving us.
If you're new to the Enneagram and don't yet know your number, I'm going to point you in the direction of some resources to get you started. Just finding out you're a nine or have a stinking suspicion you might be? Been in the Enneagram Peacemaker crowd for a while and ready to grow deeper and join a community of others with similar inner worlds (internal motivators?). If so, you are in the right place!
I am pumped and honored that you are here and am ready to get this party started!
~Lindsey Haeger~
