Fairbreak is a movement which the Paddock and The Pavilion is pleased to support.

FairBreak’s mission is to progress gender equality on a truly global scale, using cricket as their primary vehicle.

The 2nd Fairbreak invitational tournament was held in Hong Kong between April 3rd and the 16th . In this podcast of two parts I was joined by German international and Falcons player Tina Gough a regular guest on The Paddock and the Pavilion to chat about this popular cricketing event which featured many of the world’s leading players.

In the second part of our ‘Memories of The Ashes series I was joined by former England opening batter of the 1960s and 70s Dennis Amiss.

Dennis’s ‘Memories of The Ashes’ went back to watching his hero Denis Compton winning the Ashes on television in 1953.

His Ashes career began and ended at Old Trafford (1968-1977). In his opening Ashes Test in 1968 he bagged a pair and Dennis talks philosophically about the troubles he experienced against Australia, who proved to be his nemesis during his Test career.

After 1968 his next Ashes Test came in the winter of 1974/75 where the England team and Dennis took a battering as they suffered a 4-1 series thrashing. We hear what it was like to face the fearsome duo of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson on some fast bouncy wickets.

Dennis continued to play for England in the home series against the Aussies in 1975 and 1977.

The podcast ended with Dennis’s views on the much-anticipated 2023 Ashes series which will begin at his adopted home, Edgbaston on 16 June.

This interview was recorded on 25 May

Part 3 coming soon with former England swing bowler Richard Ellison.

In a special Cricket World Cup podcast, I was joined by Shazia, the Afghanistan women's captain, who now lives in Australia, to get her reaction to her country's famous victory over reigning champions England on xx October. The Afghanistan men's team who only played their first World Cup qualifier in 2008 defeated England by 69 runs in one of the biggest shocks in the competition's 48 year history.

Shazia added some interesting thoughts on the Afghanistan team's continued involvement in International cricket whilst the women's side are still denied the chance to play by their government. “They also deserve what we want for ourselves. I am really proud of them. They are a great team. Yes they should play” said Shazia.

To end the show the young Afghanistan leg spinner gave a report on her opening game of the new season for Eastlake CC in Canberra.

Another insightful and inspiring interview with the Afghanistan women's captain who originally featured on The Paddock and The Pavilion in Episode 225 - The road from turmoil to hope. See the link below.

And following Afghanistan's win against Pakistan eight days later I caught up with Shazia again for her thoughts on another famous victory by the Afghanistan cricket team, who are bringing joy to a nation.
