Adrian also discusses the importance of lifestyle medicine and how we can encourage patients (and ourselves) to change their habits in order to create healthier lives. Adrian also teaches us how to use information mastery to effectively analyze and utilize evidence-based medicine.

At the end of the day, we’re all humans taking care of other humans. Let’s try and find the best way to care for others that also shows compassion to ourselves. We can be proud to be PAs and be excellent at what we do, but we don’t need to let our careers define who we are.

I am so excited to share today’s guest, PA Tara Cross. Tara currently works as an orthopedic PA but also runs her own business teaching wilderness medicine of all levels. From teaching lay people basic first aid and CPR to running advanced life support courses for PAs and paramedics, Tara loves to share her knowledge of wilderness medicine and safety.

In today’s episode, Tara tells us what to do if we encounter an emergency outside the walls of our hospital or clinic. She details what we should have on hand to be prepared for an emergency, whether we’re hiking the backcountry or at our kid’s soccer game. Tara discusses the basics everyone should know and how to adjust our mindset from waiting for CT or ultrasound results to using the limited resources we have on hand to triage the situation and stabilize the patient.
