Avast ye, hearties! Jennie and Dianne take to the high seas to visit the world's only known pirate cemetery hidden away on Ile Sainte Marie, a thin strip of land off Madagascar’s northeast coast, where for more than a hundred years thousands of pirates called this place home when they weren't out plundering for booty. Then the ladies batten down the hatches and head back to America to the coast of North Carolina where they visit three mysterious graves that possibly belong to pirates? And further inland what is said to be the grave of one of the world's most infamous pirates who possibly faked his own death to escape his life of crime, Jean Lafitte. Jennie and Dianne kick off 2023 by answering many questions posed by their listeners over the course of the previous year. They begin this two-part episode by covering the legal definition of an abandoned cemetery and how this definition determines either the survival or removal of a burial ground. They delve in to what to do should you accidentally excavate a burial site, especially if that site belongs to Native Americans. And finally, they cover the topic of cemetery grants including those provided by the Veterans Association (VA) to ensure that US military veterans receive a respectful burial.

"Be kind, be kind because kindness may always help out someone who is suffering." These words of advice were written from a mother to her daughters when she feared that her time on earth was growing short, that mother was Mary "Queen" Mellen Palmer. She was mother to three daughters whom she adored and loving wife to the founder of Colorado Springs, General William Jackson Palmer. But she was so much more than just a wife and a mother and until recent years, history has done her Ordinary Extraordinary story several injustices. Fortunately, Dianne has spent many years researching and portraying Queen and shares the story of her life and legacy; it was Queen who opened the first public school in Colorado springs. She was a trustee for the library association and she helped to bring music and culture to a corner of the Wild West. Even though she was often in poor health due to a heart condition, she traveled extensively, doted on her children, and did her part to help care for her family, her friends, and those in her community who had so much less than she; helping not only with their material needs, but bringing beauty into their lives as well. How have the people of Venice, Italy buried their dead over the centuries? Founded in the 5th century and spread over 118 small islands, Venice became a major maritime power in the 10th century. Some of these Ordinary Extraordinary Venetians were buried in a crypt beneath Basilica di San Marco, while others were relegated to burial grounds on two different islands; the Island of San Michele and the Jewish cemetery on the Lido. In this episode Dianne and Jennie learn about one man's heartache and how it led him to build a magnificent mausoleum and gorgeous Victorian mansion. John Bowman built his wealth owning several tanneries and selling leather goods to the Union army during the civil war. However, his true happiness was the love he showered on his wife and daughters and when he lost them he he built the magnificent Laurel Glen Mausoleum and Laurel Hall right across the street in Cuttingsville, Vermont. The second story in this episode revolves around Rebecca Nurse and the Nurse family cemetery located in Danvers, Massachusetts. Rebecca Nurse was one of 19 victims hanged during the Salem witchcraft hysteria of 1692 and her home is the only one left where a victim of the witch trials actually lived. Included on that property is a family cemetery where it has been rumored for nearly 300 years that Rebecca may be buried.
