The NeverEnding Movie Marathon - Steven Spielberg Almost Made...

Alex, Matt, and Rocco each break down a favorite project that Steven Spielberg almost made throughout his long and storied career. An incredibly expensive adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's Robopocalypse is Alex's pick, since he once got a moment to discuss the project with Michael Bay, who inherited the script (and some leftover sets) from Spielberg.
Matt reveals Spielberg's fascination with modern toilet innovator, Thomas Crapper, and a possible film based on the book Flushed with Pride, before diving deep on what SHREK would have looked like if Spielberg made it back in the 1990s with Bill Murray and Steve Martin.
Then, Rocco brings in a Michael Crichton adaptation of PIRATE LATITUDES, a no-fun realism take on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN that sounds like it was based on Jimmy Buffett song (even if it wasn't).
And that's the end of our new mini-marathon, folks! This summer, we're gettin' in the ring with Steven for the SPIELBERG SUMMER SLAM! We're hitting up his incredible run of blockbusters from the genre-defining JAWS (1975) up through his hand-wave screen technology-introducing MINORITY REPORT (2002)!

All aboard! We're piercing snow on this deep-dive into the masterworks of genius filmmaker Bong Joon-ho. Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Song Kang-ho, John Hurt, and Octavia Spencer chugga-chugga choo-choo into a climate apocalypse in 'Snowpiercer' (2013)!
Throughout November, the NeverEnding Movie Marathon crew will answer that query with three of their favorites-- starting with the Nicolas Cage crashterpiece (or trashterpiece?), 'Con Air' (1997), then continuing with Bong Joon-ho's sleeper(car) hit.

'Logan' (2017) is the third episode in our Widow Makers mini-marathon about the trio of films that inspired director Cate Shortland on Marvel's 'Black Widow' (2021), and it's arguably the best superhero movies ever made! Definitely the best Wolverine movie ever made... We dig our adamantium claws into how music man Hugh Jackman became super-hunk Huge JackedMan; our deep, confusing feelings for a film franchise with more bad attempts than great movies; and how director James Mangold might be the perfect choice to give Indiana Jones a similar perfect goodbye to a beloved character. Plus, we find an excuse to sing the '90s "X-Men" cartoon theme song again!

The NeverEnding Movie Marathon - Magnolia (1999) with Alex Kauffman - Tom Cruisin' USA
play

05/11/22 • 128 min

Paul Thomas Anderson's primal scream about coincidence, fate, frogs, and Hollywood is on the table today thanks to our friend, Alex Kauffman. She reveals that at 18-years-old she got a Magnolia-inspired tattoo that she maaaaybe regrets getting back then as she, Rocco, and Alex Logan try to get to the bottom of what the hell this movie actually means, and if it is a masterpiece, a mess, or perhaps, both?
The trio discuss how they first found the film over a shared infatuation with Julianne Moore, how Tom Cruise almost overshadows the entire project (and maybe kinda deserves to), how John C. Reilly's hilarious role was inspired by the show "Cops," how Philip Seymour Hoffman's Phil Parma character is like human sage, and how it all connects to the great NeverEnding Movie Marathon that has taken the next few weeks to go Tom Cruisin' the USA!
