play

11/04/19 • 22 min

Have you ever wondered why people sing in church?
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me...there are those iconic hymns that one person begins to sing and others join in around and memories of family, worship, concerts, flood back into your mind...
Singing is a part worship, a central part, singing praises to God gathered together. It has been a powerful and faithful means of how we speak to God during worship. But, if you have never been to church, it can be intimidating, unknown, loud and cause fear.
This series answers the question of why we sing in worship and explores the history of hymns all the way through modern hymns we sing today.

Remember when you first fell in love...the time spent, the activities, the joy.
For everything there is a season...Ecclesiastes 1:1

  • The question you must ask is what season are you in with God and with loved ones? Yes, they can be different seasons...
  • The important part in each of the relationships is to name the season.
  • "Without naming the season you will only wander through it, not walk through it"

Name the season you are in...

  • name the season that you are in so that you can walk through it and not wander.
  • name the season that you are in because you will know where you are at and can decide where you are going
  • name the season that you are in so that others can walk with you.

A time to be...Ecclesiastes 1:2

  • We are on a single journey on this earth, our choice, our faith, is in how we live out that journey...till death do us part.
  • Whatever you plant today will be the seed of tomorrow, what do you want to reap? Today is a new beginning in your season of planting.
  • Jesus calls us to new life in Christ, daily renewal.
  • Do not see this text as "plucking" but more as harvesting. We harvest the good.

There will be a season where we see God face to face...1 Corinthians 13:11-13

What is the harvest that you will share with God? Will it be beautifully good and filled with love?

The Neighborhood Church, Bentonville, AR - Holy Week | Good Friday

Holy Week | Good Friday

The Neighborhood Church, Bentonville, AR

play

04/10/20 • 11 min

On Good Friday, we find ourselves at the foot of the Cross kneeling as both saint and sinner. We lift our own crosses that we bear, for us sometimes a symbol of how our love is held back from others, but for Christ a symbol of sacrificial love with a promise. The promise that God will not abandon us in our suffering. God comes to us just like this, just as we are. Christ conquers our greatest fear, death and promises life. Life Eternal. On Good Friday, we stand at the foot of the cross with Jesus. Gospel: John 18:1 - 19:40

ReFRESHING // Your life

1. Start with understanding your faith

• Saved by grace through faith, this is the pillar of our theology

• Not the result of works...how do I live out my faith then?

2. Understand your place

• You are “gifted" and among others who are gifted

• Doing “good”, does not mean you are using your gifts

• Can’t I just be a good person...Of course! It’s just not an answer to faith.
3. Understand others faith

• God's grace, your gift.
