As moms, we all want the same thing when it comes to divorce - a good one, if there even is such a thing. We want the amicable divorce, the friendly "I want the best for you," relationship with our exes because we know that will ultimately benefit our kids the most. But sometimes, it's only one parent who is in favor of a good divorce, while the other parent chooses anger and ego over anything else.

In this episode of Moms Moving On, good divorce proponent and author of The Mom’s Guide to a Good Divorce, Sarah Armstrong and I chatted about what it means to have a good divorce, what it takes to put your child first, and how you can still have a good divorce even if your ex isn't on the same page.

This conversation will have you breathing a sigh of relief as you realize that your good effort will not go unnoticed by your kids despite what your may do or not do. In fact, your efforts will make ALL the difference in the lives of your children.

Sarah Armstrong is vice president, global marketing operations, at Google and proud mom of Grace, who is graduating from high school in 2021. She is a mentor to other women in business, and longtime volunteer at various nonprofit organizations, including Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation, Georgetown Alumni Admissions Program and Trinity Table Soup Kitchen.

Prior to joining Google, Sarah was a partner at McKinsey & Co. and worked at The Coca-Cola Company in global marketing for twenty years, where she led Worldwide Agency Operations across 200 countries. Sarah started her career at Leo Burnett (Chicago) in Media. Sarah’s work has been recognized around the world, resulting in her being named one of Ad Age’s “Women to Watch” and included in Ad Age’s Book of Tens (“Top Ten Who Made Their Mark in 2009”).

Sarah was raised in Birmingham, Michigan with two younger brothers and happily married parents (for over fifty years and still going strong). She attended Georgetown University, as a scholarship athlete, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business Administration with a major in marketing. She was a four-year starter on the Georgetown University Volleyball Team.

Sarah loves traveling the world and has been fortunate to travel to 55+ countries. She enjoys exploring new cities with Grace whenever possible. Sarah lives in Atlanta.

The Moving On Method® Podcast - The Benefits of Mediation in the Divorce Process
play

02/26/20 • 24 min

Think mediation isn't for you? Think again. Aside from helping you save money, mediation has more benefits than you may realize.

This week's guest, mediator Dori Schwirtz breaks down the all of the benefits of mediation for us in a way that makes this process seems like a no-brainer. As a non-practicing Attorney, Dori is the ultimate referee between divorcing partners, as she helps them achieve peace throughout a really tumultuous time. Statistics show that when two parties have the right to make their own agreement, they are more likely to see the agreement through to the end, unlike in a case where the judge decides for them.

Dori has been featured in Forbes, US News, Chicago Tribune, the Daily News, and more. You can connect with her here for more information about the mediation process, and don't forget to check out her great Instagram account, @divorceharmony. Enjoy!

You know her from Bravo's Real Housewives of NYC latest season. You know that she's outspoken, strong, and beautiful. You know that she loves to have a great time. But what you don't know, is that like so many of us, she is a devoted single mother who is steadfastly committed to positive co-parenting. Was it always so positive for her? Of course not, it takes all of us years to get to that positive co-parenting point - even for women as strong as Leah. If you saw Leah's interactions with her daughter's father, Rob, in one of the latest episodes of Real Housewives of NYC, you'd never think that their relationship ever involved resentment, fighting, and sadness. Right now, their relationship is gold, and for lack of a better term, they are GOALS. Hear all of Leah's secrets to maintaining a healthy co-parenting relationships with her daughter's father, and also enjoy her juicy little tidbits about their past (you'll laugh your ass off), in this episode of Moms Moving On. Leah McSweeney is a streetwear pioneer, female entrepreneur, cultural provocateur, influencer, and mother living in New York City. Leah became notorious in New York City for launching Married to the Mob in 2004, one of the first streetwear brands for women, by women. For Leah, MOB was a direct response to the male domination of the streetwear scene at that time, and she set out to prove that women could not only establish themselves as innovators, designers and influencers in the arena, but as consumers as well. She successfully brokered exclusive partnerships for MOB with some of the world’s most desirable brands, like MCM, Kangol, Barbie, colette Paris, Reebok, Burton, and Nike to make MOB a cult classic brand. When she is not building fashion empires, Leah brings her strong female voice and viewpoint to debates about pop culture, feminism, and sex as an advice columnist for Penthouse magazine and the co-host of the popular podcast, Improper Etiquette, as well as a contributor to Hypebae, Office Magazine, and Mass Appeal. As Leah continues to advocate for female empowerment, street culture and creative entrepreneurship, she also leans into lifestyle topics like health, fitness and breaking the stigma around mental health. Leah is currently raising her 12-year-old daughter in New York City. Learn more about Leah, here.
