There are incredible opportunities in this space. The information out there is not being translated in a way people understand. We are so looking forward to being able to do that for you.

To celebrate the launch of The Mortgage Mum Wealth, we are asking Dinta some of the main questions people Google on this topic. So without further ado, let me hand over the episode to the wonderful Dinta and Tessa.

Please send in your wealth questions. Let us know what you want to know more about, and we will cover it in future episodes and on our social media.

Welcome to the August episode of The Mortgage Mum Podcast. This month Kim Balasubramaniam, one of our Senior Mortgage Brokers is guest hosting the podcast and welcomes interior designer Sophie Robinson to the show.

Sophie has enjoyed a long and creative career as a TV presenter, podcaster, journalist, stylist and designer with over two decades of experience in the interiors and media industry. You will recognise her from TV shows such as DIY SOS and most recently the BBC’s Interior Design Masters. Sophie is well known for her love of colour and pattern and is on a mission to ban the beige! Her brand is about so much more than interior design though; it’s about giving others the inspiration, know-how and confidence to be creative in their own home, and in an affordable way at that.

In this episode we talk through Sophie’s own journey with redesigning and renovating her family home; a tile hung cottage in the countryside that has undergone quite the transformation in the last few years.

Sophie shares her super useful tips for space planning like a pro, how to view the layout of a property when house hunting, and how simply changing the function of spaces can have a huge impact on how you live in your home.

We discuss how the age-old adage of keeping everything neutral won’t actually add the most value to your home, and how carefully chosen interiors can actually do the opposite.

Sophie shares her top tips for injecting colour and personality into your home design to create a joyous space that works for you and your family, and how this has been proven to have a direct impact on our wellbeing.

Finally we hear about her exciting future plans, and how her kitchen design was inspired by her new wallpaper collection.

To find out more about Sophie’s work, you can follow her on Instagram @sophierobinsoninteriors listen to The Great Indoors Podcast on your favourite podcast player or visit her website at sophierobinson.co.uk to find out more about her online courses and in-person workshops.

It’s a bit of a switch from the norm as both hosts are Brokers at The Mortgage Mum.

Kim is a Senior Broker who has lived in various period properties over the years and is currently renovating her 18th century cottage.

Sally Mitchell is a Senior Broker and Business Manager and has lived in period properties ranging from the 15th Century to 19th Century for the last 35 years.

Kim and Sally are both passionate about the historic significance of period properties and the different architectural styles and decoration they represent.

Sally says, “We understand that taking on an older property can be daunting but there is a lot of advice and help out there and, with a few tips, it doesn’t have to be a minefield.”

Kim says, “We want to encourage people to become the custodians of these very special buildings and look after them so they can be passed onto future generations as living, breathing homes.”

In this episode, Kim and Sally discuss:

Welcome to May’s episode, where guest host Gemma Bennett, Senior Broker at The Mortgage Mum is joined by Abigail Foster founder and CEO of Elent Financial Education.

Abi is an ACA chartered accountant and having recognised a severe gap in financial literacy within the workplace became passionate about doing what she can to amend this through relatable and easy to understand practical financial education, delivered through workshops in schools, universities and workplaces.

This led to the creation of ELENT. Gemma and Abi discuss the importance of better financial education and how Abi is assisting in bridging this gap for so many.

Her passion and drive to eradicate the gender pay gap and what she’s doing to inform the younger generations of the future workforce, with better conversations around finances.

Gemma discovered Abi on social media when recognising, from conversations with many clients and peers, that a need for a better financial education system is required and started wondering what was out there.

Stumbling across Abi with her tagline, ‘the financial education you wish you had learnt at school,’ Gemma knew she had found the person she was looking for.

Abi, posts creative, vibrant and energetic content on her socials that’s relatable and practical for all. Even elements such as understanding your payslip are so important and let’s be honest, so many people don’t, yet don’t admit this.

Our finances are part of our everyday and yet fluid conversations around our Pay, Tax, Pensions and Mortgages are still not the norm. Adequate comprehension around these elements of life is often not at the level it should be.

As a result, people feel disempowered or overwhelmed. This should not be the case! You shouldn’t have to be a financial professional to understand your day to day finances. Better conversations and education is important as we empower ourselves to take charge of such elements.

Money is part of everyone’s life and therefore cannot be a ‘taboo’ subject and must be spoken about. Abi is a truly fascinating and interesting woman and her intellect and passion is so infectious as she talks about her inspirations and goals with Elent.

We really hope you enjoy this episode and watch out for the launch of Abi’s online financial education platform coming soon!

"The Man Behind The Mortgage Mum"

A very warm welcome to today's episode of The Mortgage Mum podcast - and this is a unique one.

Today, I’m joined by one of my closest friends and business partner, Jamie Lewis. Many people don't realise that there are two of us behind the Mortgage Mum brand, Jamie and myself.

I feel December is a time of reflection, to look at where you are in your life right now and be grateful for those people around you.

And I am incredibly grateful to Jamie for giving me the opportunity to be a mortgage broker around my own children in the first place, because he didn't have to, and The Mortgage Mum may not have been here now without that first opportunity.

Today, The Mortgage Mum gives opportunities to women all across the UK, allowing them to work flexibly around their families and carve a career for themselves that's as ambitious as they want it to be. We don't have to hide our children. They are fully welcome on one-to-ones, probation meetings or group meetings.

Our whole team is not made up of mums, but it is made up of women.

But wait.... This isn’t a female-only club. And there is a man behind the scenes (maybe more soon.... Watch this space!), and without this man none of it would have been possible.

So, today we're going to talk about the story behind the Mortgage Mum, with the man behind the scenes of it all - Mr Jamie Lewis and answer some of those tough questions, including....

DOES THE MORTGAGE MUM HIRE MEN?

As always, a huge thank you to our editing team and our pianist Zoe Alexandria, who created our intro music.

If you or anyone you know is looking for mortgage advice, we would love to help you, here at The Mortgage Mum.

We are a team of women based across the UK who are passionate and hard working and who pride ourselves on 5* customer service! We work at hours that suit you, and we love to educate and empower you along the way!

After all, this is the biggest financial decision of your life..... so make sure you've got the right team behind you all the way!

Welcome to April’s episode, where guest host Gemma Bennett, Senior Broker at The Mortgage Mum, takes time to discuss getting mortgage ready when you have a fixed term, temporary or zero hours employment contract.

Being employed doesn’t look the same for everyone and if you have an employment contract that isn’t considered permanent, you may need to consider a few extra elements to help lenders understand your current and future income, when it comes to applying for a mortgage.

Since working in the mortgage industry Gemma has seen just how varied lenders are in their approaches to contract workers and uses this podcast episode to give you an overview of things to consider and how to get yourself in the best position.

Essentially it comes down to offering the lenders as much evidenced security of your income levels as we can. We do this by looking both back at your recent employment history and forward when it comes to non permanent contracted employment.

Gemma hopes she can shed some light on what’s required and what is most helpful if you’re in this position. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions.
