In this episode of the More Mindful podcast, Julia interviews Lexus Gordon, a macro coach and nutrition expert, about her transformative journey from macro tracking to intuitive eating.

Lexus shares her struggles with disordered eating, the impact of societal pressures on body image, and how she discovered the power of macros.

If you’ve ever looked at someone who “seems to have it all together” and felt like thatcould never be you - this is a conversation you do not want to miss. Lexus opens up so vulnerably about her past with food and how the pressure of high school and the desire for thinness and being skinny pushed her into drug abuse and a reliance on unhealthy tools to remain in a body “deemed worthy” by others (which I just know that so many of us can deeply relate to).

Her story is one of self discovery and learning to ask the question “what really makes me truly happy?” and then making the choices necessary to get there instead of remaining in the bubble of doing what others expect.

The conversation delves into the importance of mindset, self-trust, and the tools necessary for a successful transition to intuitive eating.

One of the highlights of the episodes includes Lexus describing what it means to be a student of what you desire to have and allowing yourself to be bad at something before expecting yourself to know what the heck you’re doing (especially when it’s brand new!!) - she shares how this was precisely her approach to getting unassisted pull-ups and making sourdough bread at home, and Julia shares more about her recent experiences with being bad at tennis and adopting this same student mentality

Lexus emphasizes the significance of journaling and self-reflection in understanding one's relationship with food and personal goals.

You do not want to miss the conversation they have at the end, leaving listeners with mindset homework that has the potential to truly shift the way you think - for good.

In this episode, I discuss the 5 specific habit changes that have made the BIGGEST difference in my mind, body, and health in the last three years (while I’ve lost nearly 20 lbs!) - I will walk you through how and why these things made a difference for me (including some of the science!!)
I also open up about my 15 years of misery starting in grade school with body image struggles and unhelpful beliefs I held onto. I share my journey about my own resentment of my body throughout high school and college - and I share it to help you see how what I’ve accomplished isn’t unique or special - it’s so possible for YOU, too.

I dive into how learning more about the definition of health changed my perspective big time and helped me move away from quick fixes and cookie-cutter diets.

More importantly, I start this episode with a discussion of where to actually start... it may surprise you that my first step for you isn’t diving into all five of these habits. I coach you through deciding where and how to start and why having a destination in mind is going to matter.

I dive into:

  • The type of exercise / movement that made the biggest change for me
  • The type of daily habits that have transformed how I feel
  • How these changes have impacted my clarity and sense of self
  • How I never realized how good I could feel inside my body until

I promise you’ll leave this episode with the mental reframe you needed to feel more capable and hopeful then when you pressed play.

This episode is THE episode that had to be first.

I wanna tell you WHY you must eat more than you think.

I'm gonna kinda walk you through two different reasons, two different frameworks for why eating more is going to help you eat less and why eating more is going to help you have fewer moments of self sabotage and not feel as out of control around food.

The first is mental and it's based on the thoughts you’re telling yourself and really the way that your brain's reward circuitry. I can actually tell you why your brain is making it hard on you when you create a list of forbidden foods.

And second, I want to talk about the metabolic and hormonal perspective (yup, eating less may be hurting your metabolism). There’s a mechanism inside your body that is driving up your hunger when we cut calories too much, and I want to walk you through it!

I will tell you exactly why restriction actually causes overeating so you can start reframing how you look at food and eating - and hopefully, it will help you get better results, even faster!
If you only listen to one of the first 3 episodes - make it THIS ONE & then come message me and let me know what you think!

In this conversation, Julia and Kaylin discuss the concept of balance in health and fitness, specifically focusing on surviving the weekend. If you're someone who says "I'll just start over again on Monday"... this is the episode for you!! A big piece of this episode is how to build a lifestyle - including the weekends - that support the goals you have for the future (and where mindset fits into that too!)
They share their personal journeys with nutritional periodization and how it has changed their relationship with food and their bodies, while emphasizing the importance of a life-first approach and debunking the myth that counting macros means restriction. You'll especially enjoy this part if you've ever wondered how tracking your food could be a healthy choice in a world that glorifies intuitive eating as being THE best choice every time.
They also discuss the dangerous mindset of using food as a reward, especially as busy women, and the opportunity to find other forms of self-care.

They highlight the importance of education, curiosity, and finding balance in order to achieve sustainable results. In this conversation, Kaylin and Julia discuss the importance of viewing food as a reward and finding other ways to feel good that align with our goals.

They emphasize the need to be mindful and curious about our food choices, using tracking as a tool to shed light on our nutrition. They also discuss strategies for planning and balancing social events and weekends with macros, including pre-logging and making choices that align with our preferences and goals.

The conversation highlights the importance of flexibility, imperfection, and self-compassion in our nutrition journey.
