Mentoring Men is a registered Australian charity providing free life mentoring programs for adult men in the community. The brain child of Ian Westmoreland who had the idea to provide a service to to help adult men experiencing distress.
When Ian found himself at a crossroads, he was unable to find a place to connect to other men for mentoring or a new sense of direction. This set him on a mission to create this incredible free one on one “life” mentoring service, providing valuable, solid assistance to help men to adjust and transition through difficult times to a better and normal quality of life.
Joining the conversation is Shay Hare, a mentor at the non-profit organisation and the inspiring creator of The 25twoZERO Movement. Shay himself faced a huge shift in his own life and was moved to take action after the suicide of a co-worker.After a period of hard questions and seeking his own truth through vulnerability, Shay set up the 25twoZERO Movement and has set himself the goal to run 2,520 km this year. Each kilometre ran will represent every male that loses their battle each year. Shay’s campaign goal is to increase awareness, change the way males talk about their mental health and raise funds to help reduce the number of men in crisis from over 2,500 to ZERO.
It is my pleasure to hold this conversation with these 2 inspiring men, providing such valuable services for men in distress.

In this episode I speak to Gideon MZembe, who is an absolute light in an often dark landscape.

Listen in to be inspired with this man’s journey from Mallawi to the shores of Australia, arriving with refugee status as a young boy in the 90’s, Gideon brings a breath of fresh air with his perspective and reflection. With his moto of “You are more than what you have become, you are more than what happens to you” he inspires as he goes.

We chat about his quest for manhood, raised by a single mother he admires so much, Gideon went through his late teens and early 20’s following a role he felt was the path of “the man”, with great success, only to discover something within was missing, a part of his soul.

Gideon shares how he integrated finding the vulnerability inside, and learned to express that as powerfully as his strength on the football field.

You will find Gideon at Studio 99 Fitness Centre 12 Edmondstone St, South Brisbane.

Born and raised in South Africa, Marius Van Der Nist is an incredible force in the male empowerment space. His message of "become more vulnerable, love deeper & become a better you" is even more amazing when you listen to how his journey began.

Experiencing the traumatic loss of his mother suddenly at age 4, Marius had extraordinary circumstances to manoeuvre. Clinically depressed for half his life, Marius turned to professional rugby union, became a 10 X Ironman finisher, aspiring magazine publisher of Triathlete & 220 Triathlon magazines, owner of American Golf Gear and now he has stepped out as author of, 'It's All About You'. After all this Marius states that his BEST achievement by far, is being father to Joshua & Luke.

His story is a true testament that ANYONE can overcome pain & obstacles and achieve greatness, but ONLY IF YOU choose to.

Wolfgang Wildgrace... a powerful name for a powerful guy, in this podcast I had the privilege to hear his story.

Finding praise and acceptance through violence, Wolfgang spent a number of years in the agony of this space, disconnected, behaving in a way he still feels some shame for even today. Finding solace through Mens Work circles, Wolfgang began to learn new things, replacing violence with a different type of ego - but an ego all the same....

Wolfgang speaks candidly about the journey he took to grow past his violent youth, the darkness of trained behaviour, the perceived change vs actually walking the "talk" applying it in truth into his life behind the scenes of "Mens Work". This truely is an open, raw serve of "Are you REALLY practising emotional fitness"?... ask yourself honestly, "Are you just talking about it?"...

It is such a pleasure to share with you the wisdom of Henry Johnstone. Henry is a Rapid Change Therapist from the UK, who overcame a 15 year journey of alcohol addiction which almost took his life. Sobering up after 15 years he underwent an amazing transformation into the man he is today.
Henry's incredible ability to share and his deep and moving insights into the role of the hero and "being manly" are such food for thought.
When Henry shares his view on hope during this episode, it felt profound. His gentle advice and deep non-judgemental compassion is really something to hear, he is certainly an inspiration.

In this episode I am thrilled to share the wisdom and experience of Andrew Lines, the amazing mind and creator behind "The Rite Journey", an incredible resource offered to schools to "Transform Todays Teens".

Andrew discusses some of the many issues faced by parents, acknowledging the immense impact of the internet, social media and the difference this has made to what our children face on a day to day basis. Andrew chats about how his program addresses the communication between girls and boys, how to embrace important conversations and discuss emotions, how to talk about the "uncomfortable" things and how to connect in a world bombarded by screens.

Established in 1997, Andrew's mission has never been more needed than it is today. The Rite Journey provides unique educational programs in schools and organisations designed to support the development of self-aware, responsible, respectful, resilient and resourceful adults.

It is my pleasure to have had this conversation, I so enjoyed it and I am sure you will too.

During the 1960s and 1970s, a notorious paedophile ring preyed on children in the regional Victorian city of Ballarat, my guest today, Peter Blenkiron was abused by one of these Christian Brothers when he was 11 years old.

In this conversation we chat about the affects not just on Peter, but on the community as a whole. Ballarat has an increased suicide rate of 30% over the rest of Australia and unfortunately the news that another man has taken their life is way too familiar. This conversation is grounded, honest and moving. Honouring the depth of mental health and the traits that can cover it, Peter shares how it was nearly 30 years before he allowed the truth to come forward and how it felt when many many others came bravely forward to share the truth that it had happened to them too.
Peter became the voice of his community during the Royal Commission, even flying over to Rome to stand on the steps of the Vatican to be heard and seek justice. Much love to this community.

Should you feel affected either by this podcast or any other challenges at this time, please reach out knowing that you matter.
