Adeel Ahmad

Dr. Jane Gregory is a clinical psychologist and misophonia researcher at Oxford University... she also has misophonia herself! Find her on the web and social media at the links below. We go over too many things to list in this almost 90 minute episode, including therapies she uses in her practice, the misophonia research she is conducting at the Department of Experimental Psychology at Oxford, and of course her misophonia life story. Part of her work centers around the S-5 questionnaire to measure misophonia. We actually go over my results from the questionnaire and you can follow along with the chart posted here and in the show notes!

The Misophonia Podcast - Mary-Rachel - Navigating Misophonia with Community Support
play

Welcome to an exciting season 5! Mary-Rachel is a casting director and producer in LA who had a miso-related breakdown following an MRI a few months ago. This conversation is a hilarious rollercoaster talking about miso and much more... growing up with miso in a well-known British family, being a single parent, life in LA, explaining it to parents, children, co-workers, and the often profanity-infused outbursts that come with the territory. This is a long one but worth it as I start the new season with a bang. Enjoy!

Here I introduce the podcast - candid conversations between me and people from around the world who also suffer from Misophonia.
Rather than learning about some dictionary definition of it, I talk to misophones about their first triggers, how they cope, how people around them deal with it, and really anything else that comes up. This is by misophones, for misophones.

The Misophonia Podcast - Jennifer C. - Rediscovering Joy Beyond Misophonia's Impact
play

08/08/22 • 62 min

This is an interview I’ve been really looking forward to sharing. It’s one that really hit me hard as we were talking, and for several weeks since. Jennifer has been reflecting on the effect misophonia has had on her own life and her relationships with others going back decades to when she was a little girl who was best friends with her parents. That relationship changed suddenly and never recovered. This story was surreal and emotional for me to listen to because many of us understand and can relate. We've gone through a lot of the same situations, feelings, and what-ifs.
Also, Jennifer co-runs an organization that traps, neuters and returns feral cats in north Jersey called CPAW NJ.

Excited to finally bring out this conversation I had a few months ago with Jeffrey Scott Gould. You may already know the name if you’ve seen his documentary Quiet Please... The film did a lot to raise awareness for misophonia and help people with misophonia understand what they’re feeling and most importantly that they’re not alone. In this conversation we talk about why Jeffrey made the documentary, how he decided what to put in the film, the reactions for misophones, dealing with haters, infighting in the misophonia community, and of course his own life story, his coping tips, and what he’s been up to since the film. This was every bit as awesome as I was hoping and actually even exceeded that.

It’s the annual family episode! Last year around this time I had two episodes back to back of a mother and a daughter who both have misophonia. I decided to continue the family theme every year around the holidays and I am happy to bring this incredible episode featuring the Denburg family. It started as an interview with Alexandra, but then her parents were interested in talking about their experience with having a child with misophonia.

Alexandra grew up in North Jersey, had a pretty typical misophonia onset story, was actually bullied from an early age up even through college, and now has a successful, award-winning interior design firm. When she found out the misophonia had a name it was a revelation, as it was to her parents who just became even more supportive to the point of wanting to help others who are dealing with miso.

The Misophonia Podcast - Jane - Screenwriter Navigates Misophonia in Life and Career
play

12/23/20 • 68 min

Today I bring the first of a two-part series featuring mother and daughter, both misophones in Germany. In this episode I talk to the mother, Jane. We go through her early years of misophonia in the UK, working on both sides of the Atlantic, going through multiple marriages, raising children, who also have miso, and now her life in Germany as a screenwriter. At the end of our chat she shares the story of a truly beautiful moment between two misophones on a train. This episode is just chock full of great insights about our shared experience with this condition.
