The Myths about Hormone Therapy - A Wake-Up Call to Get Wise!

Ever felt dismissed by doctors when discussing menopause symptoms? You're not alone!
Welcome to our first episode under the freshly rebranded title, The Menopause Disruptor Podcast. In this episode, we learn why host Mary Lee change her podcast name to better fit the mission to challenge societal norms and shift outdated perceptions around menopause. It's time for a shake-up to build a culture of understanding, acceptance, and empowerment.

In this monologue, Mary emphasizes the importance of empowering women through education and accurate information, specifically regarding hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also referred to as Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT). She delves into the controversial 2002 Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Trial, highlighting its flaws and subsequent misinterpretations that have long impacted the knowledge around the benefits versus the risks of HRT / MHT.

Mary advocates for informed decision-making, urging listeners to actively seek current, evidence-based research to make the best health choices with their providers. This episode is a call to arms for women to reclaim control over their menopause journey and disrupt the lingering myths that continue to undermine women's health.

Unmasking Autism: Late Diagnoses and Its Impact on Women with Dr. Angela Lauria

In this episode, Mary is joined by Dr. Angela Lauria, a late-diagnosed autistic adult to explore the intersection of neurodivergence and menopause.
Angela divulges her journey with an autism diagnosis to understanding her heightened sensory experiences during menopause. She shines a critical spotlight on historical societal norms and biases towards neurodivergence acceptance in boys as opposed to girls and children of colour or lower socioeconomic status and further discusses why many women may still remain undiagnosed. Angela also emphasises the importance of self-identification over formal diagnosis.
The conversation dives deep into the eight (8) senses of neurodivergent individuals, shedding light on the need for tailored support for neurodivergent women, and the significance of community and self-advocacy to help navigate the compounded effects of symptoms in menopause.
Angela has a B.A. and an M.A. in Journalism and Media Affairs from George Washington University and a PhD in Communications from European Graduate School. She has leveraged her autism with a life-long special interest in nonfiction to help almost 2,000 entrepreneurs write, publish, and promote their books through her company Difference Press. She, too, is an author of eight books, including a Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestseller.
In addition to her professional work, she created The Autistic Culture Podcast (ranked in the top 2.5% of global podcasts) to advocate for viewing autism as a cultural difference to be embraced and not a disorder to be fixed.

Transcript

After talking with, a lot of empty nest women or women stepping into it and just hearing them,

listening to them, the one thing that I kept hearing was sadness, loneliness. Not knowing who they are anymore. What am I going to do with my time? So, a lot of those things really resonated to my core and really shook me because I'm like, okay, I do see all of that.

However, this is supposed to be a new chapter. It's supposed to be one of our best chapters. Your child would not want you
