A journal entry from Inara days before leaving for the Peacemeet:

Oh my God, Mother just called me to her sitting room! She says, since I’ve proven over the past two months that I can conduct my experiments without destroying our home or hurting anyone, that I may join her, Sama and Leilani at the peace meet! I’m so glad I was able to quickly contain the fire from last night’s experiment before anyone noticed. I really didn’t think adding the crushed Karoo rose mixture to the fire salamander blood would create so many sparks?! I wonder what would happen if I tried feeding a live salamander some of the mixture? Could it gain some form of fire ability?.. No! I’ll have to wait till our return to test this out, I cannot risk losing this opportunity! Mother says this is my chance to use everything I’ve learned at court out in the real world. If I can prove useful to Mother and the rest of the council members, I’m sure she would allow me to explore the wares from these new lands during my free time. It’s been FIFTY years since the last time anyone’s been to this gathering, one can only imagine what new materials and science these countries have discovered since then! Catahara has told me so many stories about the abundant flora in Mid’eia, and I can only imagine what strange wonders can be found in Perian! Graven does not like to speak of his life before escaping to Luxuria, and as much as it kills me, I dare not risk upsetting my dear friend by bringing up his mutation again - not after that lightning storm last time! Anyway I must spend the next month practicing my diplomacy skills, and learning the necessary phrases in other languages if I’m to make the most of this chance!

A letter from Plato of House Aardavian to his sister on the way to the Peacemeet:
Dear Norri,
Do me the favor of not gloating to the council that you’ve tricked me, I’m sure you and Rainier are having a great time as I will have you know I can barely sleep out amid all this wilderness. Others in the delegation have been leaving me be, I think they are still frightened, at least the older ones. Ochradio has been spending time with them and started glancing at me as well. Oh well, we all must grow up.
I have a least been able to talk with Dregher who could hold a conversation on water displacement with and Sluicer. They have been showing me designs for irrigation canals, truly fascinating. We are making our way along the border mountain now, it won’t be long. If you can keep this to yourself I am becoming a little proud, for the first time perhaps we are a bit brand new.
I have, however, used my entire coffee ration so I will be appropriating some from the delegation supply under my own authority. Trust me this is best for everyone.
Keep a Weather Eye,
Plato

A journal entry from Ser Sherrilyn Astalder on the way to the Peacemeet:

The Hierophant’s procession departed Mid’eia over two weeks prior. He made a big show of it, since this was the civilians first time getting to see our new Oracle. I don’t know her as well as I should, I’ll admit. Oracle Sabina is... so young. I doubt she has any ideas as to where she is about to be paraded or why. The people probably can’t tell through the shroud of her garbs and her palanquin, but I and the other members of the Order travelling alongside her, know that she is completely blindfolded. She will stay like that until we reach our destination. What is it like to be so utterly deprived of all things sensational, I wonder?

The people laid flowers and scattered seeds across the street on our exit. Chiffon ropes holding them away from our procession. Useless things. Meaningless decoration. It only took a couple of days to reach Kenith’Lyair and from there it took several more to hitch the palanquin onto rope lines and carefully lower it below into the waiting ship. This will be the first crewed by the people of our country since the last Peacemeet, fifty years ago. The longest leg of our journey was taking the ship on route around the peninsula to pass the woodland. The only route which would truly keep hidden the secrets of our famously lethal and clandestine border to our neighbors. The Hierophant has been watching me carefully. Indeed, watching all of us carefully. Scrutinizing every member of our Order; every one of my men. Believing he is so... magnanimous in his criticisms. His loquacious manner belies his ambition to keep Mid’eia the picturesque country of platitude.

Well, we shall see about that. While I might not be able to trust my own thoughts to my comrades, at least I have Harqen. My noble steed. He shall never betray my confidence, surely.

Sherrilyn

A Letter from Francis to Maria, the eldest Princess of Hỗn hợp:

Dear Maria,

I hope this letter finds you well. The journey to the Peacemeet has been interesting to say the least. The trek up the river and through the jungle has proven more challenging even for the most experienced guide that we could find. This task that has been put upon me is a great honor and privilege, but how it fell upon me is something I will have to ask you later. For now, I will honor the family's legacy and put our confederation's best face on. I only hope the governors share our desire in making us more appealable to the outside world. For now, I write as best as I can and speak as I can. Take care and I hope mother is doing well.

Your favorite cousin, Francis.
