The Kid Factory Podcast

The Kid Factory Podcast

Cindy Robinson

This podcast is intended to be a place parents (or any adults for that matter) can go to get resources and advice on all things mental health, parenting, and realizing a passion. It was created as a branch of the community project The Kid Factory, aimed at finding solutions for the recent rise in anxiety, depression, and suicide in kids and teens. We want parents to find their best selves, because we know the children they care for will in turn reap the benefits. If you are looking for tools to build the future you deserve, listen thoughtfully. We speak with entrepreneurs, experts, doctors, therapists, scientists, moms and so much more about the components to living a truly fulfilled life. This is no generic "lean in" podcast... here you will get the information you can use to grow, heal, and embrace yourself and others. Come with us on a journey to redifine success!

I am re-releasing this special episode not only because it is one of my most popular ones ever, but also because food and picky eating have seen a MASSIVE increase during the pandemic. Allie Horne of The New Normal is a genius and shares some amazing tips for navigating this issue. Plus, I love the first section was recorded right at the beginning of the pandemic - talk about a throwback to simpler times!

Clinical Psychologists Dr. Nicole Chavez and Dr. Parie Faridnia led a seminar on Highly Sensitive Children at a play therapy conference last year and I’ve wanted to talk to them ever since. They are both strong believers in prevention and early intervention and are certified experts in parenting, prenatal/postpartum mental health, play, adolescent and family therapies. They explain in this episode how to know if you have a Highly Sensitive Child, and what parenting approaches are going to work best for them if you do.

Today’s topic is Divorce and I am talking with Jennifer Hurvitz, host of the Doing Divorce Right podcast and author of One Happy Divorce and Woulda Shoulda Coulda: A Divorced Coach’s Guide to Staying Married. I knew I wanted to do a podcast on divorce, given that half of all marriages end in divorce and it must play a significant role in the mental health of children. But I wasn’t sure where to begin. When I heard Jennifer was a divorce coach I just had to talk to her! I fully expected her to be pro-divorce... I was surprised to find that she wasn’t at all. Have a listen because this podcast is just as much for the married parents as it is for the divorced.

The Kid Factory Podcast - *SPECIAL RE-RELEASE*How to Raise An Adult - Julie Lythcott-Haims
play

01/06/21 • 56 min

I am re-releasing this podcast episode because it was one of the most validating conversations I've ever had. Julie Lythcott-Haims, author of How to Raise an Adult, is one of the biggest inspirations behind why I started The Kid Factory. Her TED Talk, titled “How to raise successful kids without over parenting” is groundbreaking and her book “How to Raise an Adult” is a resource guide for any parent. But mostly, her honesty and genuine support are why she is a person to be admired.

I am re-releasing this episode because, well, can we ever have too much Dr. Plomin?? Dr. Plomin is the author of Blueprint: How DNA Makes Us Who We Are. If you haven’t listened to our first episode together I highly recommend going back to that one and then listening to this one. In this conversation I have compiled the common feedback I had from listeners about our original podcast and got Dr. Plomin to address them. He's just as magnificent the 2nd time around.
