Ever wondered how a menstrual cycle can affect training and nutrition? On today's episode we addressed exactly that!

First off, big shout out to all the females! You have a big task at hand, the survival of the human race!

It's called a CYCLE for a reason. It's always changing and super important that you understand that.

A woman's menstrual cycle has different phases: the menstrual, follicular, ovulation, and luteal phases, which is often broken down more broadly into just the follicular and luteal phases.

First comes the menstrual phase

When a woman gets her period and her levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone drop. This typically lasts 3-7 days but can vary between individuals.

This also kicks off the follicular phase

Which begins on day one of your period and continues until ovulation, a total of about 16 days. During this phase, the pituitary gland releases follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This is when you are estrogen dominant. Estrogen gets a bad rap. But what we have found out with modern day science. It decreases appetite, Increases insulin sensitivity, and protects agains muscle soreness.

During the ovulation phase

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is released in response to the follicular phase’s rising estrogen levels. Wondering if you’re ovulating? One sign is a slight rise in body temperature, which happens around day 14 of your cycle. You will notice a rise in testosterone and get some of your best workouts.

Finally, we enter the luteal phase

This is where we see a rise in progesterone and a slight bump in estrogen levels, followed by a drop in both hormones and the restart of the cycle (barring pregnancy). The luteal phase is when we experience those *lovely* PMS symptoms, like bloating, headache, weight changes, food cravings, and trouble sleeping. This phase lasts 11-17 days.

Honestly though, that is just a sliver of his story. He opens up about his drug addiction and now 5 plus years of sobriety. He gets raw and real about going from huge financial success to literally having nothing in his bank account. His message is one of triumph built off of struggle. Now, having a motto of “failing forward”, Noah is a prime example of you can literally do ANYTHING if you put in the work and surround yourself with a support system.

However, after being medically discharged from the military, Chase was able to rehabilitate his mindset and form a new outlook on life. Why has mental health become a subject of taboo? We suppress our feelings to the point of insanity. We are scared to ask for help, we feel helpless and alone. However, you are not alone, everyone struggles with mental health in their own way and there are steps you can take for help! We had coach Auri on the show today and she got raw and real about her current life struggles. At a glance you would think Auri has the perfect life, you may even envy her. However, behind the scenes Auri is far from perfect, struggling with the same issues as everyone else. Does this change the fact that she is an amazing person? Absolutely not! Since Auri was a child she has struggle with self esteem mainly stemming from her troubles with a poor body image. Auri has kept this all in until today, when she decided to quit suppressing her feelings and let them out. Which after the podcast she said was a huge relief. Sometimes we need to sacrifice our pride and let out or feelings. You will be surprised how much support you may receive from those around you. Tune in and learn how Auri, Justin and Brad cope with their daily struggles. Also note that just because they are coaches, does not mean they do not struggle with the same issues and self doubt as you and I. No one is perfect and everyone is worthy of happiness. Enjoy!

In this episode, we discussed how being fit goes way beyond just physically fit.

People grossly underestimate how much your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual fitness all play together.

If you asked me after thousands of clients, why do so many not successfully hit their goals, I would boil it down to this.

They are not spiritually fit and they have emotional baggage. Trapped emotions that cause incredibly negative thought patterns and limiting self beliefs.

Being “Spiritually fit” can confuse a lot of people.

Think of this way: The act of nourishing your spirit.

What makes you come alive? What makes you feel joy? What makes you feel grateful? What gives you those “god shot” moments?

Whatever THAT is, we want you to do that!

We discussed ways to become more spiritually fit that you might not think of.

Find a person who is healthy, fit, does this as a lifestyle and is HAPPY... and I'll show you someone who 9 times out of 10, is also spiritually fit.

Prioritize all 4 areas if you not only want to get and stay in shape but more importantly, find fulfillment and happiness in this healthy lifestyle journey.

We try to convey the message to stop viewing this as one dimensional.

You are worth so much more than just abs. You are worth making this a REAL change. You are worth being happy. You are worth having true fulfillment and joy in your life.

Balancing on an uneven chair every day sucks. No wonder the other legs fall out.

Start with the spirit, and watch the rest fall into place. Its a beautiful journey, my friends.
