The Journey of My Mother's Son

The Journey of My Mother's Son

Dan Clouser

My name is Dan Clouser. I am a podcast host, author and a speaker. I founded and ran a nonprofit youth sports organization for 30 years called the Berkshire Baseball & Softball Club, which later became the BIG Vision Foundation. We ran teams, tournaments and a 130 acre sports complex. I loved every second of what I did. I loved working with kids and teaching them leadership skills and life lessons through sports and community service. I thought that I would have died doing what I loved. Then in 2019, I felt a calling from God for my wife, Sandy, and I. We decided to leave our comfort zone and start a new journey. A literal journey, selling most of our material things and setting out across this beautiful country in an RV with our golden retriever, Youkilis. Sounds crazy, but it was also destined to happen. You see I was raised by a hippy named Loretta Magary, she was a free spirit who quit her job and embarked on her own journey in the mid-1980’s. Her journey started in a 1967 Plymouth Valiant with the back seat removed to make a bed and a .38 Special for protection. She later evolved into a 1978 Toyota camper. After she passed away in 2005, we were able to experience a small part of her journey by going through her old photos and letters. The people that she met along the way were amazing. I’ll be conducting speaking engagements and writing more books on our travels. More importantly, this is our chance to continue my mother’s legacy of giving back through volunteering. We will tell the stories of the people that we meet along the way through this podcast, blogging, and social media. This is truly “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” and as Michael Franti says in the opening verse of his song, “Gloria,” “When many little people in many little places, Do many little things, then the whole world changes.” It will be our job to share and tell the stories of those “Many Little People” through this podcast and my writing. Some of the people that we interview may be famous, most will not be, but they’ll all have a story to tell about the difference they’re making. Some stories will still have a sports theme, others spiritual, some will be about music, others about food, some will talk about travel, but all will be about the many little people, in the many little places who are doing the many little things to make the whole world change. We pray that you enjoy these stories and are inspired to do your own little things to make this world a better place for all of us.

The Journey of My Mother's Son - April Crossley – Life Should be an Experience
play

05/07/21 • 35 min

In this episode of The Journey of my Mother’s Son podcast, I sit down and talk with fellow full-time RVer and Berks County native, April Crossley.

April and I have been friends on Facebook for several years, but have only really started to get to know one another last year when we found out that we were both getting ready to ditch the life that our society says that we should be living.

Within a few months of each other, Sandy and I in August of 2020 and April and her husband, Justin in October of 2020 started off on our new journeys. We all had an understanding that life needs to be experienced by getting outside and soaking in Vitamin D while making memories that will last a lifetime. All of the “things” that we end up accumulating over time are really just that, things. Most of which are really not actually needed. What is needed for the true human experience is connection. Connection to others, to nature, and to God.

As April and I prepared for the podcast, we found out that we have much more in common than just being full-time RVers and Berks County natives. April, like me, became a parent at 16 years old. She turned her test into a testimony. Against all odds, and in the face of doubters at every turn of the way, she completed high school, college and had a successful career in healthcare. In her mid-30’s, she felt unfulfilled and with the experience of flipping a few houses under her belt, she retired from healthcare and launched a successful real estate investment company, Crossley Property Group.

Crossley Property Group is now a multi-million-dollar real estate investment company and April helps others learn how to build wealth through real estate investment.

For April, it’s not just about building generational wealth, it’s about helping others build wealth and get out of a poverty mind-set.

April and I have gone through a mental and spiritual transformation over the past two years that has led each of us onto this journey, I am sure that you will find this conversation interesting. My hope is that you too, become inspired to start experiencing life, it doesn’t have to by selling everything and living in an RV, although I highly recommend that. I just pray that you listen to God and find your own way to truly experience life.

The Journey of My Mother's Son - Dan Clouser - Making History with the Sonoma Stompers
play

06/12/20 • 45 min

In this week's episode of The Journey of My Mother's Son, I talked to Stacy Piagno and Isaac Wenrich who made history on July 15, 2017 when Piagno recorded a win against the Pittsburg Diamonds in her first start of the 2017 season. In doing so, she became only the third woman since the 1950s to win a game in an American men's professional league. Wenrich, who is a former player of mine from my Berkshire Baseball days, was her catcher that day. The two share memories of that day and the season in general. Stacy talks about how important it was for the men in the Sonoma clubhouse to simply accept her and her female teammate, Kelsie Whitmore as nothing more than teammates and fellow ballplayers. Isaac talks about how having the women on the team pushed him to push himself and work even harder to improve his own skills.

play

09/08/23 • 34 min

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Stacie Shifflett.

Stacie is the founder of Modern Consciousness® & Modern Consciousness CoachTM

She is also:

· Three-time International Bestselling Author

· Certified ThetaHealer®

· Certified Free-mE Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) PractitionerTM

· Master Practitioner of Neuro-linguistic Programming

· Professional Neuro-Shine Technology CoachTM

· Certified High Performance CoachTM

She is an entrepreneur, writer and proficient student of life blessed with the gifts of insight, grit and optimism.

She is also a ‘practicalist.’ It’s in her nature. Always has been.

What is that? A practicalist is a person who is devoted to, or advocates for what is practical as opposed to what is theoretical. In other words, a pragmatist. This means that she deals with problems and situations – in a way that focuses on sensible approaches and meaningful solutions.

How did Stacie’s life evolve to create Modern Consciousness?

In 2012, a life-changing event propelled her forward on a personal journey of deep healing and self-discovery. Her goals? To gain a better understanding of the human condition in general and, even more importantly, to determine how her mindset and beliefs, two things that profoundly affect every aspect of our lives, were influencing her life. The life that she had known for the previous 28 years had been upended and she had two choices: remain on auto-pilot and leave her future to chance or deliberately create a future that she desired. She chose the latter.

Since that time, Stacie has studied with many people on a wide range of topics, from traditional coaching to energetic healing, from neuroscience to spirituality. This journey ignited a desire within her to create a better world one person at a time and, through a series of what she can only call Divine guidance and synchronicities, Modern ConsciousnessTM was born.

08/04/23 • 22 min

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Juliet Rose.

By the time she was ten years old Juliet Rose knew she wanted to be a writer. She entertained neighborhood kids with her stories after school and with the support of her mother got her first typewriter. Life had other plans and after the death of her mother when Juliet was eleven, she put those dreams on hold. Over the decades she has picked up the proverbial pen time and again, writing about her life experiences including the cancer diagnosis and subsequent passing of her four-year-old daughter.

Focusing on fiction currently, she is driven to bring to life characters from many walks of life and the struggles faced in modern society. Her writing style is open and fluid, giving the characters the ability to shine as the truth of their own story. Her works are honest and sometimes brutally painful but in the end her characters are given the voice which needs to be heard.

Juliet is a New York native living in the mountains of Georgia. She has lived all over the United States and Mexico and doesn’t plan to stop seeing the world beyond her front door step. She spends her time rescuing animals, painting and writing. Her dream is to get an RV to explore hidden gems and find the best vegan restaurants.

In this episode of The Journey of My Mother's Son podcast, I continue the conversation with Homa Shafii. Born and raised in Iran for the first 11 years of her life, her father had the foresight to move to the United States in order to create more opportunities for both him and his family. Baseball wasn't the only male dominated endeavor that Homa took on and excelled at. She also became a Firefighter, Peace Officer and first female member of her California SWAT team. More importantly, her story is one of faith and finding Jesus during one of her darkest times. She now loves to help others by inspiring them to find their own faith and trust in God.

In this episode of the Journey of My Mother’s Son podcast, I sit down and talk with Brittany and Cody Holifield.

I had Cody and Brittany on the show after we first met at A Year to Volunteer project at Sam Houston Jones State Park back in March of 2022. At that time, they were a full-time RV family of four traveling throughout the United States under the name Hitch to Hitch.

A lot has changed for them over the past couple of years, and they are about to start a new chapter.

Hitch to Hitch is changing to Halls Top Hangout. What is Halls Top Hangout, you ask? It’s a brand new off-grid adventure camp in the beautiful East Tennessee Mountain town of Hartford.

Hartford, Tennessee is located about an hour from Knoxville, Ashville, and Gatlinburg, on the edge of the Cherokee National Forest.

Cody and Brittany want to create a space where people can come to, unplug, and reconnect with nature.

To find out more about what’s going on at the new Halls Top Hangout Adventure Camp, check out their website at https://www.hallstophangout.com/.
