I hear it an awful lot in sales meetings..."I know we're here to make money, so let's go out there and get us some sales. But sales are really an outcome of a lot of other good and important work that MUST come first. That's what we need to focus on.

Most marketing is lame and ineffective because most people don't put the time and attention into making sure they get it right. Instead, they just copy what everyone else is doing. Want to see an example of this? Check your local paper and look at all of the ads for dentists. They all do the same lame thing. In this podcast I share a quick little story that illustrates this point and hopefully inspire you to adopt a new mantra... "I'm a marketer in the business of...(fill in the blank)" For example, you are not a car salesman. You are a marketer in the business of car sales.
